**Job Purpose**
To contribute to the delivery of teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with Biological Sciences in the undergraduate dental programme and postgraduate programmes within the Dental School portfolio. To engage with scholarly activities that provide an excellent student experience. To contribute to the teaching and training of students in both laboratory and data driven science.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Deliver a range of teaching, supervision and assessment activities associated with Biomedical Science teaching in the undergraduate dental degree and in the field of oral science and oral health research as part of postgraduate programmes.
2. Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.
3. To engage with current research and trends in the field of Oral Sciences to enhance research-led teaching.
4. Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
5. Make effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
6. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and potentially online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
7. Engage in scholarship by undertaking methodologically rigorous, educationally relevant, enquiries into student learning and disseminate evidence to enhance your own, and potentially others’, teaching practices. Attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching, scholarship and/or professional practice in your disciplinary area.
8. Develop effective working relationships with students and, in partnership with relevant student services teams, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.
9. Develop relationships with external stakeholders in support of knowledge exchange, public understanding and appropriate forms of outreach such as widening access.
10. Participate in local, and potentially overseas, activities associated with student recruitment (e.g. open days), orientation and induction and other School and University initiatives such as support for student transitions, employability and student mobility as appropriate.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
13. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 An undergraduate degree in a biomedical science.
A2 A PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. oral sciences, microbiology, immunology).

**Desirable**:

B1 Have/be willing to work towards a PGCert in Academic Practice for teaching in higher education, or equivalent.

**Skills**

**Essential**:

C1 Competence in IT skills, including use of standard Office packages and utilisation of VLE software; use of tools for generation of multimedia/blended learning content.
C2 Excellent written communication skills.
C3 Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
C4 Time management skills and ability to prioritise work and co-ordinate/schedule activities.
C5 Ability to work in a team and interact with administrative/secretarial staff, academics and NHS Staff.
C6 Ability/motivation to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and so inspire learning.
C7 Ability to provide pastoral support for students.

**Desirable**:

D1 Previous experience of mentoring students and/or staff.

**Experience**

**Essential**:

E1 Direct experience of a variety of approaches to teaching in a higher education environment, including evidence of experience in the design and delivery of teaching.
E2 Experience of laboratory techniques in disciplines relevant to the role (e.g. microbiology / immunology / molecular biology).
E3 Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.

**Desirable**:

F1 Experience of grading student performance under specific codes of assessment.
F2 Supervision of student projects.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
