ZSL is seeking a qualified keeper to work on the Domestic farm section at Whipsnade Zoo. The role will involve the day-to-day husbandry of a variety different rare breed domestic species including, sheep, goats, Equines, Zebu, Guinea pigs, Alpacas, and birds.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Observe the behaviour, health and security of animals and report any problems to the Team Leader or manager including defects or repairs required to enclosures and relevant departments required to support work needed.
- Preparation of approved diets and carrying out the correct feeding procedures.
- Record keeping via a Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS), including personal relevant observations of animal behaviour, health, and welfare.
- Work with senior keepers, ensuring that conditions for animals are suitable and in line with current best practice for welfare, group size and population management.
- Communicate with all areas of the zoo to ensure the animals and wider exhibit remain in the best condition.
- Setup of animal training programmes and maintain existing ones.
- Ensure positive visitor experiences by good customer service and professional visitor engagement.
- Have a qualification in a relevant field at university level and/or diploma in the DMZAA Keeper's course or equivalent work experience.
- Have practical experience of animal husbandry in zoo or farm park setting, preferably with domestic livestock or horses
- Have a willingness to work on evolving husbandry management to include positive re-enforcement training for behavioural management and varied methods of enrichment for a range of species.
- Be a positive influence on the section and work well in a team environment.
- To be able to use industry recognised techniques to handle section specific animals should catch ups or veterinary procedures require it
- Be reliable, have good timekeeping and attendance record and able to demonstrate professionalism and excellent team ethics
- A full clean manual driving license

**Please note, the general physical demand classification of this role is heavy work. Tasks will include pushing, pulling, bending and lifting weights ranging from 25 to 100 pounds.**
