**Attendance Improvement Leader Job Description**

**Post Title**:Attendance Improvement Leader for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4

**Grade**: Grade 6 Points 23 to 27: £30,151 to £33,820 pro rata to term time plus

**Purpose of the Role**:
Attendance is an essential aspect of a successful community and academic success. The role of the Attendance Leader is to assist in the promotion of outstanding attendance by working in partnership with all stakeholders and the wider community. If attendance is high then students have improved life chances and will make more rapid progress academically and socially.

The Attendance Improvement Lead will work directly with all stakeholders in a non-judgmental way, encouraging, challenging and supporting improvements in attendance at an individual, cohort and whole school level.
- The role of the Attendance Improvement Lead is to have a strategic overview of the attendance strategy and ensure that all parties are working collaboratively and effectively to improve the whole school attendance.
- The Attendance Improvement Lead will coordinate and manage systems of tracking, monitoring and analysing attendance data to ensure that attendance improves.

Policy are administered in a way that meets the aims and objectives of the school.
- To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people
- To play a key part across the secondary trust academies as required by the Executive

Principal to undertake a supportive, collaborative and partnership approach to school improvement
- Promote the academy vision and values and an ethos in which the highest achievements are expected from all members of the academy community

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Create the annual development plan for attendance and community within the Academy, ensuring that the strategy in place is sufficiently sophisticated to deliver rapid improvements in attendance and transformational improvements in community support and reputation.
- Work closely with the Vice Principal/Principal; monitoring attendance and punctuality daily; developing strategies to maintain/improve attendance and punctuality in line with the academy’s key performance targets. Develop relationships with parents and plan interventions to engage with academy attendance expectations

- Work with the Key Stage Pastoral Leaders to plan a half termly Academy incentive programme for attendance, ensuring that incentives are low cost, high impact, relevant to students and effectively promoted across the Academy.
- Monitor and respond to poor attendance and truancy, meeting with parents and carers as necessary.
- Quality assure the attendance actions carried out on a daily basis, ensuring that all absent students have had some form of attendance intervention and that all colleagues within the

Academy are robustly supporting and delivering on the attendance strategy.
- Support, oversee and track the requirement of all instances of illness to be evidenced with medical information.
- Support, oversee and track the legal process for all parents who are not meeting their legal obligation to send their child to school every day unless they are too ill to do so.
- Develop strong relationships with Oldham City Council to further support the Academy in delivering a strong message about the importance of attendance.
- With the Academy HOY/Key stage leaders, set up and oversee all attendance clinics for student below academy expectations with early intervention
- In conjunction with the relevant HOY, monitor carefully the attendance of students at offsite provisions and take action to improve attendance where necessary.
- Work directly with the Academy Transition team to ensure that the reputation of the academy within local primary schools is strong.
- Set up and coordinate visits to the Academy from both Primary School students and also members of the local community.
- Maintain accurate records on all significant interaction, intervention or contact with individual students, their parents/carers, colleagues and any external agencies using academy agreed systems.
- Where necessary, attend and contribute to the organisation and smooth running of academy events such as open evenings, parents’ evenings and other school events as requested.
- Liaise with outside agencies (e.g. EWO, Police, Social Services, Educational

Psychologists etc).
- To contribute towards the school self-review cycle linked to monitoring the care, guidance and support work of the academy.
- Liaise with parents regarding any issue which also helps to build positive relationships.
