**Job overview**:
**The post holder is required to support all aspects of legal services, including inquests, police enquiries and on occasion’s claims.**

The legal team cover four localities - Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Salford. For each of these localities there is an inquest lead and paralegal, with the exception of Salford, which has two legal co ordinators and one inquest lead.

We are a small team based at Fairfield General Hospital and work closely with the Medical Examiner service and the Risk team, as well as claims.

**Main duties of the job**:

- **Negotiate with various professionals to obtain information required for the Coroner’s/Police**:

- **Triage inquests and allocate to the statement writer.**:

- **Manage a caseload of inquests allocated by the Head of Legal to ensure Coroners deadlines are met.**:

- **Manage the datix system to ensure all information is recorded in a timely and accurate manner.**:

- **Provide advice and support with statement writing, including review of statements.**:

- **Ensure submissions of reports are adhered to.**:

- **Attend pre meets to support with statement writing and inquests.**:

- **Escalate any concerns early in relation to regulation 28 (PFD) to the Head of Legal Services for consideration of legal representation.**:

- **Be patient focused and ensure any family concerns raised have been addressed.**:

- **Monitor the progress of inquest related investigations, statements and reports, including Duty of Candour requirements, escalating any anticipated breaches of Key Performance Indicators (KPI), in line with Trust policy and procedures.**:

- **To extract and provide data and trend analysis reports to Divisional Management Teams and Directorates, as required.**:

- **To horizon scan any themes or patient safety concerns that are coming out of inquests, claims or investigations.**
- **The above indicates the main duties of the post which may be reviewed in the light of experience and developments within the service. Any review will be undertaken in conjunction with the post holder.**
