We are currently supporting a lovely young woman to find some caring and committed Personal Care Assistants. Please see her description of the support she needs below:
I'm a 25 year-old wheelchair user with tracheostomy, looking for another couple of PCAs to join my team. My mum is the official employer for my PCAs. She is a backup, and can provide training. I also have a small friendly dog who is often with me, old & very friendly. and barks a lot

Evenings are mostly at home - I need someone with me who can suction airways and make sure I'm OK. Mostly I stay at home during the evening, often on my laptop or phone, but I like to go out sometimes, maybe cinema or gym. I like listening to music, playing board games like Scrabble, and doing accessible sports.

If I’m at home I usually start getting ready for bed at about 8:30pm - earlier if it’s a shower night. For going out, I have a power chair to drive to the tram stop, but my mum will probably drive us places in my Motability car (or it’s possible for some PCAs to get insured to drive the car). My mum will accompany us on trips until you are fully trained and confident.

**Requirements**:
**Confident and experienced as a carer - has probably cared for disabled people before or worked in residential settings, and is unfazed by washing & dressing & all aspects of personal care.

**Willing to learn to use medical equipment (training will be given).

**Happy to be near an over-friendly dog.

Nature of the work / typical duties

See above. I have a tracheostomy and NG tube. I do standing transfers between wheelchairs and on/off bed. I stand with a Kaye walker for 40 minutes each day with a person sat beside me to make sure I don't fall over (sometimes this is my evening PCA).

Here is a list of training identified by the NHS Integrated Care Board in my care plan, especially applicable to evening PCA:

- Moving and Handling
- Basic Hygiene / infection control
- Adult safeguarding
- Emergency First Aid
- Administration of medication
- Tracheostomy Training including suction
- Resuscitation for people with Tracheostomy
- Nasogastric feeding, administration of meds and tube care.

Here is an additional list of training identified by the NHS Integrated Care Board in my care plan:

- Ventilation via Tracheostomy
- Monitoring oxygen levels, use of oxygen equipment

Training will be provided to an experienced carer, on full pay. Paid daytime shadow shifts are also available.

The person we are looking for should be:
A friendly and kind person

Hours: 8-22 per week

Up to 4 evenings per Any of the 7 evenings of the week are available (5pm-9pm during the week and 4pm-9pm at weekends). You can choose regular days (flexibility will always be offered if you want time off or swaps or extra shifts), or have an entirely flexible contract.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £12.32-£15.64 per hour

Expected hours: 8 - 22 per week
