**LIASES WITH: Other staff in CCATS, Residential Care and Local Authorities. Other members of the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of a young person**

**ROLE SUMMARY**
- To support the qualified clinical staff in providing an applied psychological service to young people and adults. The majority of young people will be under the care of the Local Authority (e.g. in residential care) and may present with various difficulties including a history of sexually harmful behaviour.
- To support the identified clinician in psychological assessment, formulation and therapy.
- To work autonomously, within professional guidelines and the overall framework of CCATS policies and procedures.
- To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within CCATS.
- To undertake relevant administrative duties that concur with the role, and when required.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
- The post holder works in the services of CCATS, which is based across the UK. The post holder will be required to work in residential children’s homes, CCATS offices and other locations as required such as schools and youth justice premises.
- CCATS staff attend relevant meetings and conduct individual and group therapies within the residential or other appropriate environment. Given the nature of the population, there is risk of exposure to face-to-face verbal and physical aggression. The post holder is expected to maintain professionalism and awareness of the potential risks for young people, themselves and other colleagues, at all times.

**KEY AREAS OF WORK**

**1. Clinical**

1.1 To support the identified clinician in the provision of psychological assessment of young people based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources. This will include psychological and cognitive tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with young people, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

1.2 To support the identified clinician in implementing a range of psychological interventions therapy for individuals.

1.3 To support the identified clinician in the development and implementation of specialist psychological interventions, integrated into a multidisciplinary effective care coordination process.

1.4 To provide appropriate psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals with agreement and direction of the identified clinician.

1.5 To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all young people.

1.6 Under direct supervision of the identified clinician, to undertake risk/treatment assessment and risk/treatment management for young people.

1.7 To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of young people. To do so under the guidance of the identified clinician.

**2. Teaching, Training and Supervision**

2.1 To receive regular supervision and management from senior professional colleagues.

2.2 To support the service in the development and delivery of relevant training, and under the supervision and guidance of the identified clinician.

**3. Research and Service Evaluation**

3.1 To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence based practice in psychological work and work with other team members.

3.2 To undertake appropriate research as agreed with the identified clinician and provide research advice to other team colleagues within your level of competence.

3.3 To support the identified clinician in the undertaking of project management, including audit and service evaluation.

**4. General**

4.1 To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice through active participation in identified CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder’s line manager, in line with the priorities of the service and professional objectives, and to provide evidence of CPD undertaken on request.

4.2 To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology across CCATS as a service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular supervision and appraisal, and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of psychology and related disciplines.

4.3 To maintain the highest standards of clinical record-keeping, including electronic data entry and recording when expected, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice o
