The post is 30 hours a week working a shift between 12pm and 6pm. Holiday leave needs to be taken outside of term time.

There will be occasions when these working hours will have to change to suit the needs of the school such as absence cover or evening school events.

The salary is Grade 3 - £20,441.00 pro rota - £10.79 per hour

The closing date is Friday 3rd February. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 7th February.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as a keyholder for the school site, unlocking and securing all access and egress points at the start and end of every day the school is open.

Be on-call to respond to the school’s security alarm at all times.

Take responsibility for ensuring all contractors are properly signed-in at the school office, and deal with any enquiries they may have. Supervise contractors on site as required.

Be able to work a split shift or lock the school building later than normal as required.

Ensure internal and external cleaning is carried out efficiently and to a high standard.

Undertake regular maintenance checks and routine maintenance work under the instruction of the Site Manager.

Undertake minor repairs where necessary.

Safely operate and maintain all machinery and equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Maintain tidy and organised workspaces and storage areas.

Good communication with the Site Manager, and have good punctuality and attendance.

Preparing the school premises and site for after school activities, e.g. functions and events, and ensuring the premises is cleaned afterwards.

Ensuring the safe and secure storage of all toxic and flammable substances.

Support staff members as requested, e.g. in relation to manual handling and operating machinery and equipment.

Undertake porterage duties, e.g. moving deliveries to the intended areas of the school, recycling paper and confidential waste and moving furniture.

Ensure safe working standards are observed at all times, and adhere to and promote the school’s policy and procedures in relation to health and safety.

Respond to fire alarms. Be able to attend school out of hours in response to emergency alarms being triggered.

Maintain a smart appearance at all times, acting as an ambassador for the school and setting a good example for pupils.

Keep up-to-date records relating to health and safety, fire safety and any evacuation procedures that have been carried out.

Liaise with the headteacher and site manager to ensure the school site is safe in adverse weather, (e.g. snow) or other circumstances.

Follow the school’s procedures relating to manual handling and lone working.

Ensure all hirers follow the school’s lettings policy and procedures while using the school site.

Work with the headteacher and site manager to identify any training and development needs.

Ensure the school’s safeguarding procedures are followed.

A relevant qualification or experience, e.g. in grounds maintenance, caretaking, security, cleaning.

A good understanding of Health & Safety.

A willingness to participate in relevant training.

**Experience**

Working in a trade or role that has provided relevant experience.

Working within a school environment.

Working within the requirements of legislation, e.g. the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

Working as a cleaner.

Working in accordance with school policy and procedures.

Promoting pupils’ welfare and education.

Knowledge and skills:
Basic ICT skills / good English and Maths skills.

A grasp of, and be able to implement, statutory requirements pertaining to education, e.g. relating to safeguarding principles.

Personal qualities:

- A positive attitude to work and the understanding that a flexible approach will be required.
- A good attendance and punctuality record.
