**Specialist Mental Health Mentor (Associate)**

Health 2 Employment are delivering specialist mental health mentoring services for students via Disability Student Allowance to help address barriers caused to learning, that are impacted by mental health conditions. This extremely valuable and rewarding service is designed to help participants achieve their goals.

**Main Duties/ Competencies**

This forms a guide to the main duties of the post. It will be regularly reviewed by the line manager to meet operational needs and may be amended.
- Provide specialist, tailored, one-to-one support which helps students address the barriers to learning to progress with their studies.
- The support can include helping students with a range of issues, for example, coping with anxiety and stressful situations, how to deal with concentration difficulties, and time management skills.
- Identifying barriers to the students learning, and creating specific, measurable actions for the student to work effectively towards.
- Helping students with prioritisation and realistic goal setting, to achieve educational and personal targets.
- Developing tailored support, to help develop the student’s growth.
- To help the students recognise the barriers to learning they may have, and support them in developing strategies to address these barriers.

**Qualifications**

Staff will need to be a registered member/accredited with the following groups below
- British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)

Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) - Mental Health Nurse, Community Health Nurse, and Psychiatric Nurse

Health and Care Professionals (HCPC) - Occupational Therapist, Arts Therapist, Practitioner Psychologist

BPS (Chartered Member)
- Own their own business and capacity to invoice for work completed and self-billing. Flexible, and to communicate availability regularly.
- Ideally being a car driver and access to a vehicle, or with willingness to cover a geographical area
- Access to a laptop and smart phone that can be used to complete work and will pass security software requirements
- Able to work constructively and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficient in IT, particularly MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
