Low Carbon Energy Adviser

**The primary purpose of the role**:
Working as part of the **Cornwall Low Carbon Energy Advice Network **delivery team, the primary purpose of the role is to assist Cornish households to improve the energy efficiency of their properties and to make the transition to low carbon lifestyles.
We are looking for advisers who will work to provide advice and support to individual households enquiring about low carbon and renewable technologies, and to support the work of climate action local groups. We aim to:
- Demystify the low carbon energy market and technologies.
- Provide consumers with independent assessments and advice enabling them to make informed choices.
- Strengthen the knowledge of local climate and community energy activists so that they are more confident in helping their communities understand the challenges of the transition and identify the barriers to action.
- Help consumers reduce the cost of carbon reductions through access to grants.
- Build confidence in the new technologies, and help troubleshoot issues as they arise, to avoid negative experiences dissuading others to act.
**Required Qualifications & Knowledge**
- A good knowledge of the geography of Cornwall and demonstrable awareness of the energy sector in Cornwall
- Knowledge of domestic energy efficiency, resource efficiency and low carbon/renewable technologies
- Able to evidence an understanding of the challenges for the transition to a low carbon energy system
A full driving licence and access to a car is required. (Note: significant weekly mileage is anticipated with this role, the costs of which will be covered, but reliability of transport is important).
All advisers are required to achieve City & Guilds Level 3 award in Energy Awareness during the probationary period. Further training will be planned following initial skills assessment.
**Contract**: Ideally this is a full-time role, but we are open to part time/flexible working arrangements with the right individual.
**Hours**:37.5 hours per week; some evening and weekend work will be necessary to deliver this role.
**Duration**: This is a four-year project, with contracts available for the whole delivery period (3-month probationary period).
**Location**: Each adviser will be allocated a geographic area to work with in, and a number of existing CCAN member groups (more will be added over the course of the project). Some work time in CEP’s Truro office will also be required.
**Salary**:starting at £29,624 and progressing to £30,361 on successful completion of probation and attainment of essential qualifications.
**Start date**: The project starts on 1 May 2024, and the role as soon after as feasible.
