Job description

**The opportunity**

A British Art & Design School with a 150-year history, Cardiff School of Art & Design (CSAD) is housed in a state-of-the-art building on the Llandaff Campus and is home to students united by ambition and a true passion for creative enquiry. They are artists, designers, makers and thinkers in the fields of architecture, design, fashion, fine art, and a range of craft disciplines. The school is also home to FabLab, the Perceptual Experience Laboratory, Spin-out companies Fovotech and HUG, and a number of major research and innovation initiatives that cohere around visual perception and user-centred design, linking disciplines from fine art to computer science.

The Sustainable Growing Futures (SGF Wales) is a Cardiff Metropolitan University community of practice (CoP) research group, including students, researchers, admin, technical, library and academic staff, volunteers, experts and local companies. The team has created three campus gardens to grow and source bioregional materials for use in sustainable creative practices, pedagogic knowledge transfer, and research.

The SGF Wales project sits within the university’s carbon literacy and sustainability strategic plans, and acts as an interdisciplinary exchange for educational approaches to teaching traditional and sustainable hand skills and new digital technology for undergraduate modules and postgraduate research.

As well as producing plant material for colour, fibres, and technology there is a focus on societal and industry’s sustainable needs for the future. SGF Wales also promotes wellbeing to reduce stress and anxiety, collaborative cross-disciplinary engagement between different university Schools, and champions positive civic engagement with local communities, educational establishments, and regional international societies.

Research impact is the contribution that research makes to society, environment, culture or the economy, beyond the contribution to academic research.
- Documentation of research, records, photographic history, feedback and analysis of impact.
- Identify marketing material, working with current social media outputs and developing innovative ideas to maximise impact.
- Attending SGF Management meetings.
- Assist with logistics of Round Table event preparations, and to capture feedback and impact of the event, in readiness for SGF Conference in 2025. Availability for the event is required (June 2024).

**What we are looking for**
- Current student or a recent Alumni (within one year of graduating) at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
- Good organisational abilities.
- Good basic IT skills such as Microsoft Office, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint.
- Ability to identify own time for independent working and meet deadlines.
- A resourceful ‘can do’ approach.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity.

**Why join Cardiff Metropolitan University?**

In 2020, the University was named The Sunday Times ‘Welsh University of the Year 2021’; in 2021 it became the Times Higher Education ‘UK and Ireland University of the Year 2022’; and in 2022 it was ranked the top university in the UK in the People and Planet Green League.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with an experienced community of practice (CoP) including academic and technical demonstrator staff, students, researchers, and volunteers with sustainability and local grow-your-own-materials at the heart of everything we do.
