We are looking for someone to work alongside experienced staff in the delivery of the Library service to gain job-specific skills and knowledge, undertaking a range of suitable work-related tasks to support your structured programme of training, leading to a recognised qualification

**Responsibilities**

Duties include:

- To undertake a range of duties, as instructed by your line manager, that are relevant to the role
- To provide front line customer service on the Library Issue and Help Desks
- To perform a range of routine duties necessary to the running of the Library including shelving and shelf-tidying, the post, overdues, processing library stock, cash-handling, equipment maintenance, basic IT support etc
- To monitor the Library environment by ensuring an atmosphere conducive to learning and by monitoring the Centre’s fabric, equipment and building services
- To engage in learning and progress towards an appropriate work-based qualification e.g. a Diploma in Customer Service Level 2
- To work towards the achievement of Key Skills/Functional Skills qualifications, to improve literacy and numeracy and in some cases team working, problem-solving and using new technology

The start and end times will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 08:30 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday 09:00 am to 5:00 pm

**Skills Required**:

- Ability to communicate to a diverse range of people at all levels verbally and in writing
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team with interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn new procedures, routines and processes
- Time management and organisational skills
- IT and keyboard and customer service skills are desirable

**Qualifications**
- GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent - Grades 9-4 (A*-C) desirable
- IT Qualification desirable

**Training & Qualifications at the end of Apprenticeship**

The course is delivered entirely in the workplace using and comprises:

- Diploma in Customer Service Level 2 (QCF)
- Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths
- Functional Skills Level 1 in English
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
- All work is completed using SMART Assessor which is an electronic portfolio system.

Course Delivery

The whole programme is delivered entirely in the workplace through group and 1 to 1 support from a dedicated assessor. Individual assessment times and workshop dates (if applicable) can be negotiated and agreed with the employer in order to ensure disruption to work is kept to a minimum.

Course Assessment
- Learners will be allocated a dedicated assessor who will carry out assessment in the workplace
- Functional Skills assessment in Maths and English is through on-line tests and these are completed at College
- All work is completed using OneFile which is an electronic portfolio system

- Satisfactorily meeting the College’s employment checks - an Independent Safeguarding Authority and/or Criminal Record Bureau Check, health assessment, references, qualifications and legal entitlement to work in the UK
- I’m under 19 (or in the first year of an apprenticeship). If you are under 19 (or over 19 but in the first year of an apprenticeship) you are entitled to the national minimum wage for apprentices - £5.28. This means your first-year apprentice wage must be equal at least £5.28 (per hour) in order to comply with the law. I’m aged 19 (or older) and on the second year (or more) of my apprenticeship. After a year, your situation might change. Once you are 19 or older and in the second year of your apprenticeship your pay switches over to now be governed by the national minimum wage.
