LOCATION: LONDON

We are excited to be recruiting a new role of Non-Executive Director for a highly respected scientific Society Publisher based in London. Our client focuses on environmental and sustainability on a global level and they are looking to recruit a Non-Executive Director to join their Board.

The role of NED will bring an external, independent perspective to the Board, assisting with strategy, developing the business and ensuring that the risks are suitably managed. This role will also challenge and advise the executive directors in line with the company values.

The organisation publishes a portfolio of peer reviewed journals and books and is one of the first learned society publishers to completely transition its journals to Open Access.

**Some of the key responsibilities of the NED will involve**:

- Assisting in setting and revising strategy and objectives
- Challenging executive directors on their decision making
- Help to determine appropriate levels of remuneration of executive directors and senior management and advise on reward mechanisms
- Advise on risk management and internal frameworks
- Share updates and insights about emerging trends and conditions in the market
- Identify opportunities of the publishing side of the organisation e.g., new services, clients, or partners

The successful person will ideally come from an academic or STM publishing background with strategic management experience gained in environmental-related services, though this is not essential. You will have experience of directing a company through sustained growth and experience of developing strategy and governance as well as operational experience. An understanding of markets including private, public, and not-for-profit sectors is essential as is an understanding of systems and risk management. You will have the ability to engage with senior management and be a strategic thinker with sound business acumen.

**This appointment will initially be for three years and the time commitment for this role will be eight days a year.**
