Senior Colorectal Laparoscopic Fellow

This post is intended for a senior trainee prior to a consultant appointment and would suit a post CCT surgeon.
Outpatient services
Most outpatient activity takes place in a purpose built dedicated Out-patient Department on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site in Truro. Additional clinics are held in community hospitals around Cornwall.
Inpatient services
GI inpatients are managed in Royal Cornwall Hospital (Truro), with a separate dedicated ambulatory and inpatient Surgical Receiving Unit (across 2 wards). There are two dedicated integrated laparoscopic theatres. Children’s surgical services are available at the Trust with 2 of the GI surgeons delivering clinics and operating sessions which are an additional training resource.
Daycase services
Daycase theatre sessions are also held at West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance) which also offers a further integrated laparoscopic theatre.
To predominantly work in the elective colorectal surgery department focusing on laparoscopic training prior to a consultant post.
To fulfil out-of-hours’ responsibilities including full participation in the Specialty Doctors’ on-call rota 1:12 nights/ weekends.
To develop experience and expertise in the assessment, management and operative treatment of colorectal and emergency surgical conditions.
Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
To attend meetings as appropriate.
Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out of hours responsibilities.
Elective colorectal work to include theatre lists with a colorectal consultant 2 days a week, participation in the care of colorectal inpatients, endoscopy, clinic work.
1:12 Friday > Sunday and 1:12 night shifts on call to include emergency operating under supervision or distance supported according to experience and casemix.
Contribution to the research portfolio within the department.
Contribution to service, and training in, elective colorectal.
Responsibilities for carrying out teaching.
