Oxford, United Kingdom Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Glyme ward is a 17-bedded Medium Secure Forensic Unit for males with a diagnosis of mental illness and/or personality disorder. Many of our service users have had experience of the criminal justice system.

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and thoughtful individuals with an interest in rehabilitation and recovery to join our multi-disciplinary team. You will have excellent communication skills with a flexible and positive attitude. You should have a caring, non-judgmental and inclusive attitude and be committed to the delivery of safe, high quality care. Experience in a secure setting would be an advantage but is not essential as we will provide you with all the training required.

You will be expected to be dynamic and committed by actively contributing to and supporting the recovery process as well as maintaining the high standards of patient care whilst working within a safe and supportive environment.

You will assist our dedicated group of Nurses in implementing and evaluating individual care plans by working alongside the patient to support their recovery journey. Your duties will also include actively supporting individual clients in engaging with their local community and reducing social isolation.

Our team works hard to ensure high quality patient centred care is at the heart of everything we do. You will be part of a motivated, supportive and cohesive multi-disciplinary Mental Health team where your contribution is highly important. The team actively promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to the care coordination of our clients.

You will receive regular clinical supervision, and will be actively encouraged to undertake further training and study in order for you to continue to develop professionally, in accordance with your agreed personal development plans.

If you think you have the right skills and values, please get in contact and come and join our team.

We pride ourselves on delivering high quality care to patients, through effective MDT working and relational security.

This role attracts RSU allowance

Benefits of working for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust include:

- Excellent opportunities for career progression
- 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, with an increase to 33 days with continuous service
- NHS Discount across a wide range of shops, restaurants and retailers
- Staff accommodation
- Competitive pension scheme
- Lease car scheme
- Cycle to work scheme

The role of a support worker involves working within the nursing team on the ward, supporting patients in their recovery. On any given day, a support worker may be required to take a lead in the security role on the ward. This requires the individual, working with the qualified nurse in charge, to make sure that all checks of the physical security are completed at the beginning, throughout and at the end of the shift. Within this role there also a responsibility to be aware of who is on the ward, either staff, external professionals or patient at any given time.

You will be required to undertake Peace training (positive engagement in caring environments) to develop skills in managing challenging situations.

Other aspects of the role, involve supporting patients through clinical observations, interaction and by taking them on escorted leave into the community. They may be involved in activities either within the ward or in the sports hall. They may also be required to take a patient on longer leaves for instance to the patient’s family home. If they are a driver this may involve them driving a patient in the pool car.

Support workers are involved in monitoring patients, to ensure that patients are safe and monitor for any changes in their mental health. Because of this, there is a supervisory aspect to their work with patients and they are required to intervene if the need arise and report any concerns relating to a patients mental health needs to the Nurse in charge. They are also required to report any incidents that they witness.
