We are currently recruiting for an In-House Professional Indemnity Lawyer who will be required to manage Slater and Gordon’s Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) Notifications; ensuring that PII notifications are notified to the PII insurer and handledin accordance with the PII contract.
The successful In-House Professional Indemnity Lawyer will work closely with other members of the Commercial Risk team contributing to the team’s strategy for reducing notifications and PII cost to the business. You will also work directly with members ofoperational teams of all work types to ensure that, as well as matters being notified properly, advice on resolving issues is provided where appropriate achieving the best outcome for clients and the business. The role also requires the holder to work withmembers of the Legal, Data and Compliance team in addition to the Client Care team where appropriate, helping with cross department notification as well as liaising with insurers, insurance brokers and external lawyers as appropriate. Collaboration with othermembers of the Finance team will be required in order to help ensure that the business has appropriate information regarding the potential impact of any notifications.

**Responsibilities to include**:
- Notifying claims and circumstances which could give rise to a claim against the business to PII insurers. Keeping appropriate reserves on those notifications.
- Keeping a record of all PII notifications, correspondence and action taken using the businesses case management system.
- Monitoring those notifications, ensuring financial information is kept current and accurate, updating, and closing the notifications.
- Providing the operational team with technical advice on notified matters where appropriate.
- Monitoring notifications to identify trends in notification causes and communicating those trends appropriately.
- Liaising directly with PII insurers and insurance brokers to manage notifications as needed in accordance with the PII policy.
- Handling any formal PII claims made against business where the agreement with the insurer allows; to include assessing and reporting on the merits of any claim, reporting internally where authorisation is required to take steps, responding in accordancewith the relevant pre-action protocol, dealing with pre-issue correspondence and negotiating settlement of damages and costs in appropriate cases.
- Where internal handling is not possible liaising with insurers and solicitors to provide information, documentation, and instructions. Reporting internally where authorisation is required to take steps / provide instructions.
- With regard to claims, and where possible, reducing any financial exposure of the business to a minimum.
**About you**:
- Good organisational and administrative abilities to ensure accurate and appropriate records are kept
- An excellent knowledge of the CPR as it applies to both matters handled within the business and professional negligence claims
- Ability to build strong relationships with operational teams, colleagues in relevant departments and with brokers and insurers
- The ability to consider problems and help provide solutions, particularly in the context of ongoing matters within the business
- Ability to manage a caseload of claims
- Good negotiating skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good verbal and written communication skills to communicate complex information in a simple and clear manner
- IT skills to include Microsoft packages, Word and particularly Excel
- Knowledge of Personal Injury Law advantageous
