**How will your role contribute at NewDay?**

The Senior Specialist Data Scientist will be a key contributor to the new Affordability product team at NewDay.

At NewDay, we believe that a robust affordability assessment is as important as creditworthiness when making lending decisions and as such we want to consolidate the different approaches across the business into one single consistent affordability assessment of our customers. This team will own and deliver these models to be based on the most sophisticated innovations in data in the market, including Open Banking, Open Data and CATO.

The team is made of up of two main backgrounds:
Analysts - with ‘traditional’ affordability and credit card industry and strategy knowledge

Data science - AI, machine learning and sophisticated statistical methods and categorisation expertise

As part of a new product team, you’ll bring robust data science expertise and solutions (including ML modelling) to optimise our understanding of potential and existing customers. You will support sophisticated projects from end to end, interacting with managers and key partners to define the problem at hand, plan the approach, capture and wrangle the data, develop and validate data science products. You’ll also be involved in several day-to-day activities conducted by the data science wider community including ongoing maintenance and improvement of internal code stack and general data science knowledge sharing.

**What will you be doing day-to-day?**
- Use sophisticated statistical and Machine Learning techniques to identify new trends and relationships in data.
- Harvest, wrangle and prototype new data sources internally and external to NewDay to build value for NewDay and our customers.
- Provide quality and detailed data science outputs, sharing and following up with partners
- Develop knowledge of all relevant data resources within NewDay and in the wider Credit Industry.
- Support the products throughout their lifecycle from conception, development, implementation, testing and monitoring, with the required level of documentation to follow internal procedures and standards.
- Research, test and recommend new algorithms or products as these fast paced technologies develop, keeping NewDay at the forefront of innovation.
- Present approaches and output to senior managers and partners, adapting the level of detail as appropriate
- Provide support to peers and junior specialists of the team and help contribute to the wider team’s output

**Your Skills and Experience**:
**ESSENTIAL**
- University degree level or similar with highly numerate and analytical background (e.g. machine learning, statistics, mathematics)
- Familiar with statistical data modelling techniques and ML
- Proficiency with Python and experience with statistics/machine learning packages such as SciKit-learn, pandas, NumPy, etc.
- Experience in data visualisation and communication
- Analytical and problem solving skills

**Desirable**:

- Open banking knowledge
- MSc or PhD in Data Science related field
- Experience within a regulated financial services organization
- Experience in supporting product deployment and engaging with DevOps / Implementation teams
