Why St Andrew’s Healthcare?

A top 20 UK charity, St Andrew’s is a unique provider of specialist care in mental health and learning disability. We aspire to deliver truly world class, holistic services within our outstanding, modern facilities. Our independence means we can always putpatients’ interests at the heart of decision making, while re-investing surpluses in frontline services. We are currently transforming the Charity and have introduced Integrated Practice Units (IPUs) as the vehicle to deliver ‘Value Based Healthcare’.Thiswill ensure our patients consistently get the best possible outcomes and local teams gain more control and responsibility.

The ward

Rose ward is a 17 bed, medium secure unit within the medium secure division (currently 16 bedded). It specialises in the assessment and treatment of adult men, of whom have an AQUIRED BRAIN INJURY. It offers assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation forpatients who have committed offences or for those individuals who present with difficult to manage behaviours. It also supports a safe, secure and therapeutic environment to assess and manage risk whilst ensuring the diverse needs of this patient group aremet.

When patients have made progress and their risk has decreased the MDT work closely with commissioners to facilitate the safe transfer to the least restrictive environment; these will be ‘step-down’ units of either low secure or locked wards. These may bewithin St Andrews or within their home area, depending on the needs of the individual, so that they can continue with their rehabilitation. Some patients arrive from Prison for assessment purposes and may return there. There are some patients whom have a degenerativedisease and their prognosis is one of decline. These patients may move on to more care-based wards.
