**About the role**

We are looking for a Senior Conservation Moves Co-ordinator to manage the delivery of conservation work for the NHM Unlocked programme. You will manage a team of Conservators in all aspects of natural history conservation from stabilising items for transport to providing expert advice. The role involves working closely with the Moves Project team and Collections teams. The postholder will have oversight for the delivery of conservation work and related tasks, being responsible for ensuring consistently high standards are applied in all aspects of conservation work while balancing the requirements of time and budget.

**About the NHM Unlocked Programme**

Over 300 scientists based at the Museum tackle important global challenges, spanning mineral scarcity, food security and biodiversity loss. The Museum is globally renowned for excellence in science and research and championing digital capacity and innovation.

The Museum has been awarded a substantial government investment of £202m, to create a new science and digitisation centre at Thames Valley Science Park which is owned by the University of Reading. This is a once in a century opportunity to shape the future of the Museum, protect and share our unique collection and further our science.

The Programme comprises several major projects and workstreams and this role sits within the Moves Project.

**Moves Project**

The new centre will include a large collections store alongside new specialist laboratories and non-technical works spaces. As part of this development, the Museum will be moving over a third of its 80 million specimens and Library and Archive collections from its four sites (in London, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire) to the new site, plus undertaking substantial internal moves and moves of specialist laboratory equipment.

The physical moves are currently scheduled to take place from 2028, with an extensive programme of preparation having already commenced, which includes audit, documentation, stabilisation and rehousing, curation, and packing, among other activities.

**About you**

You will have:

- Experience of managing staff and external contractors.
- Project Management skills including demonstrable experience in prioritisation of critical deliverables and delivery to agreed deadlines.
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of all aspects of preventive and remedial conservation ideally relating to natural science collections.
- Demonstrable experience in the documentation of remedial and preventive conservation processes including excellent IT skills
- Experience in safe and effective handling and moving large collection items
- Demonstrable written and oral communications with ability to present to varied audiences including senior stakeholders
- Familiar with ethical and health and safety considerations relating to care and protection of a range of collections including hazards in collections.
- Troubleshooting skills including proven experience in problem-solving complex challenges
- Good interpersonal skills including diplomacy and negotiating skills. Demonstrable experience in handling diverse demands from various teams.
- Ability to work as part of a team
