Residential/theraputic Childcare Practitioner

**Tribe Recruitment are hiring for a Residential/Therapeutic Childcare Practitioner in Newcastle upon Tyne/Northumberland**
Purpose of Job:
To join a team offering a comprehensive residential service to children and young people. The aim being to ensure the highest standards of physical, social and emotional care is offered for the individual development of the children/young people.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To maintain the development of positive childcare practice. Being attuned to the aims and objectives of the home and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them. Maintain a nurturing, positive and safe living environment within the home, in order to meet the needs of the children and young people. Participate in the development of care (and treatment) plans for Individual Children. You will be required to interact on an individual and group basis with children and young people.
- To contribute as that of professional parent and to take a child centred approach to enable each child/young person to grow and develop healthily, promoting and maximising their educational opportunities and/or other achievements. A vital part of your role will be providing the children/young people with emotional and social support, helping them to develop meaningful relationships with other children and adults as well as encouraging them to become involved with local communities.
- To provide a positive role model and maintain high professional standards at all times, with reference to the companies equality and diversity policies and the recognition of each person's unique racial, cultural, religious and sexuality based needs.
- Develop and sustain effective working relationships with the local community, colleagues and other agencies to promote collaborative working and partnerships.
- Accompany the children/young people when or where necessary to support and enable participation in recreation and leisure activities. Supervise family contacts if appropriate.

- Provide and maintain high levels of cleanliness and ensure that all communal areas of the home are clean and tidy. Carry out household duties, shopping, cleaning, cooking and generally ensuring that the household and garden area are maintained in a safe manner. (This position involves some manual handling duties e.g. loading and unloading washing machine).
- To carry out duties in line with our client's Policies and Procedures. Work in accordance with the Children’s Homes Regulations including the Quality Standards and contribute to any inspection process. Attend and participate in individual supervision, group supervision, team meetings and clinical consultations.
- Be responsible for the effective safeguarding of the children and young people and raise any concerns through the appropriate channels.
- To accept responsibility for monies as may be required in carrying out necessary duties
- To undertake administrative duties and maintain a regular system of recording as required through our electronic recording system.
- To ensure that prescribed and non-prescribed medication is administered to children and young people according to their individual health plan.
- You will need to be flexible in your approach to work, as on occasions you may be called upon to cover a shift due to a colleague’s absence. Such flexibility and team work allows for consistent care from recognised carers.
- Willingness to commit and complete our client's Induction Training and on-going training, for example CALM Accredited Theory and Physical Intervention.
**This position requires a compulsory commitment to undertake training as required for the proper and full conduct of duties, this includes**:
CALM Accredited Theory and Physical Intervention
Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent
On-going Therapeutic Practice Training
**and a probationary period that lasts for a period of 6 months from the first day of service. Successful completion of your probationary period will be dependent upon your performance and completion of the required probationary training.**
