**Health and Safety Lead**

**Permanent, Full time**

**Barrow-in-Furness with a requirement to travel**

**Job Purpose**

To prevent accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education to fellow employees whether on shore or in the fleet. You will be responsible for making sure that employees follow health and safety laws and creating policies for a safer work environment. You must take measures to identify potential workplace hazards and improve existing conditions.

**Role and Responsibilities**
- Prepare, & review safe systems of work i.e., risk assessments
- Undertake investigations of H&S incidents and accidents both ashore and onboard our vessels.
- Design and deliver H&S training courses for seafarers and office staff in conjunction with the Fleet Trainer
- Arrange and manage Health and Safety meetings
- Collate and distribute Health and Safety statistics both internally and externally
- An understanding of procedures and best practices in event of an epidemic.
- Ensures that the fleet of vessels is operated safely at all times
- Identifying safety initiatives and improvements to enhance fleet and shore based safety
- Undertake internal H& S inspections
- Audit working practices, identify unsafe behaviour and assess against regulatory standards
- Liaise with internal and external Health & Safety authorities.
- Ensure compliance with current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation & regulations.
- Support in creating a Health & Safety culture on board and on shore, based upon continuous evaluation, auditing and improvement.
- Progress non-conformances; identifying root cause, corrective & preventive actions
- Capable of undertaking display screen equipment assessments.
- Participates in all initiatives related to the Division’s strategy regarding local communities, as required.
- Other responsibilities as required

**Required Experience**

**Personal skills required**:

- Excellent understanding of Human Factors and the part it plays in incident prevention.
- A thorough understanding of behavioural based safety systems
- Proactive, able to work autonomously within tight timescales managing multi-disciplined projects/tasks.
- Computer literate, understanding of Power BI would be an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, able to deliver to ratings as well as senior staff.
- Ability to see tasks through to completion
- Strong problem solver with a solution orientated approach

**Qualifications**:

- Recognised Health and Safety qualifications (NEBOSH or equivalent). Certificate as a minimum, diploma ideally
- or previous H&S experience serving in a shipping-based environment.
- Degree or HNC level in a safety discipline is desirable
- Driving license
