Careers Teacher

**Location**:Caterham, Surrey
**Contract**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**:Up to £22,810 per year (UQT2 Fringe)
**Hours**: 40 hours per week

We are seeking a Careers Teacher to join a wonderful provision based in Caterham Surrey, which supports young people aged 11-16 who have who have difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism, and challenging behaviour.

The Centre is a 30-place secondary/post 16 learning centre for young people with ASD/SEMH, based in the heart of the community in Caterham-on-the-hill, with brand new state of the art conversion.

**Overall purpose**:
Providing high-quality career guidance in schools is vital to young people so they can make well-informed decisions on their future. The role of the careers and transition teacher is to embed the Gatsby Benchmarks into our small specialist secondary school. We have 30 students with communication and interaction and associated difficulties within our school.

**Key duties**:

- Devise and deliver a programme of impartial careers and transition advice, tailored to the needs of different year groups and individuals to support them to make informed and realistic decisions, based on self and opportunity awareness, aspirations and motivation.
- Ensure students and families are supported to understand the opportunities for further study or training across SEN and mainstream settings. This will include identifying and signposting to relevant colleges/ organisations and their open events.
- To provide opportunities for students to experience post-16 options through a range of activities such as taster days, college or employment placements.
- Work with students and curriculum teams to help students to understand the links between taught curriculum and qualifications and ‘the real world’.
- To support students to achieve their ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ EHCP outcomes and targets working with curriculum leads, parents and students.
- To support with teaching and learning when required.

**Knowledge and experience**
- Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with ASD, SEMH and other SEN
- Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
- Experience working within secondary/tertiary education desirable
- Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including de-escalation techniques?
- A solution
- based mind-set
- Able to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and external organisations
- A full, clean driving licence
- Strong IT skills
