ROLE DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Senior Buyer, the Buyer will purchase goods (both direct & indirect) and services for the company in line with specified cost, quality & delivery targets.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- The role involves, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: _

Supplier Relationships
- Build & maintain professional supplier relationships with your supplier base. Communicating regularly, expediting or pushing out deliveries as required.
- Negotiate contract terms, price, lead times & delivery schedules for your suppliers. Benchmark them where appropriate & highlight any issues which present risk or opportunity to the Company.
- Assess & evaluate suppliers’ performance, manage any required corrective actions alongside the QA team.
- Conduct research for new components / suppliers. Be confident sourcing or transitioning to new suppliers.
- Provide analysis on costs and review cost reduction activities.
- Interface and liaise between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes, new projects & activities where applicable.
- Prepare and raise purchase orders & order schedules with suppliers.

MRP and stock
- Develop proficiency in using the company ERP system - SAP Business 1, and familiarity with the MRP processes used.
- Assume responsibility for the on-the-shelf stock of parts from your supplier base - managing & evaluating demand through the MRP process ensuring all purchasing needs are completed on time in full.
- Liaise closely with overseas suppliers to ensure that import processes happen smoothly and without delay and that parts delivery is expedited.
- Investigate any stock-outs or missing stock both physically and by interrogating the SAP system. Recommend stock adjustments where necessary.
- Where applicable audit company owned stock-holdings at sub-contractors and other suppliers.
- Ensure standing data for your suppliers is audited and up to date.
- Be aware of product life cycles and monitor obsolete / slow moving parts from your suppliers. Highlight these to the team and put in place end of life processes.

Other responsibilities
- Work closely with others in the purchasing function and review opportunities for continuous improvement and business improvements.
- Ensure engagement with internal stakeholders.
- Assist on ad-hoc projects as required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

They will have the ability to build good relationships across various functional teams within the business, have a “can-do” attitude & be able to remain calm under pressure

**Essential criteria**
- Have experience of negotiation, cost management & supplier management
- Have experience in dealing with raw material and component suppliers, ideally gained within the manufacturing sector
- Have experience of working with an MRP system to manage procurement and inventory - experience of SAP Business One would be a clear advantage
- Be self-motivated with the confidence to find their own solutions and to close out problems before they escalate and impact the customers
- Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable communicating with diverse groups of people.

**Desirable criteria**
- Experience in purchasing Sheet Metal & machined parts would be an advantage
- Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or similar qualification or studying towards CIPS qualification would be beneficial
- Understanding of the Principles of Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement processes.
- Experience with mid-end ERP systems such as SAP B1, MS Dynamics, or SAGE.
- Experience of Lean/Continuous Improvement tools & techniques within the supply chain environment
