**Job description**:
**The Role**

As a Rural Assistant Head of Estate, you will provide expert rural practice advice, support and guidance to the regional teams with a focus on; holistic rural estate management, agricultural tenancies and farming, environmental stewardship, biodiversity, natural capital, net zero and renewable energy.

You will also be providing the national lead for some of the specific initiatives and projects that impact on the rural estate. Each day is different and varied - no 2 days are the same.

**DIO Business Area - Estates**

The Defence estate is one of the largest landholdings in the UK and covers an estimated 1.8% of the UK land mass (200,000+ ha). This is complemented by a significant UK Defence presence overseas.

If you are a suitably qualified property professional who would be interested in working client-side with Military colleagues on one of the largest estates in the country and/or across an extensive overseas portfolio, and you are motivated by the prospect of working on a diverse range of exciting, interesting and often-challenging projects of National interest in support of the UK Defence Mission, then the DIO Estates Team is for you

Estates are the in-house real estate team within the DIO (part of the UK Ministry of Defence) supporting infrastructure needs across a high-profile Public Estate. We acquire, manage, safeguard and dispose of Defence real estate. Our unique customer knowledge and insight of the Defence Estate enables our in-house team of property professionals to provide in-depth advice to our Military customers.

**The Team**

**Person specification**:
**The responsibilities of the role are**:

- Leading the delivery and programme management of the rural estate and farming strategy within the region.
- In conjunction with the Deputy Head of Estates providing and co-ordinating SME advice on behalf of LMS into the development of rural estate strategy and policies including responding to associated ministerial queries and parliamentary write arounds for the whole rural defence estate
- Leading regional stakeholder engagement on behalf of Estates with organisations such as, Defra, Natural England and Forestry England.
- Leading on the professional development of rural practice professionals within the region and being accountable for ensuring policy and strategy is consistently applied across the whole rural estate within the region

If travelling outside your base location for duty reasons, you will have access to flights, hire cars, rail tickets and overnight accommodation. You can also claim 45 pence per mile should you choose to use your own vehicle for business travel.

All employees work in accordance with the established DIO approach to hybrid working (an informal, non-contractual arrangement, blending attendance in the office or on-site and working remotely) and will be provided with IT equipment, desk, and chair to facilitate remote working and any other equipment needed for you to undertake your role.

**Desirable Experience & Skills**
- Working in a Defence environment
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office

**Desirable Membership**:

- Full membership of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV)

**Environmental Factors / Hazards Associated with the Post**

**Licences**:

- Full Driving Licence: Post holders will be required to travel to the sites covered by the post on a regular basis and some sites are difficult to access via public transport.**Qualifications**:

- RICS accredited Degree OR qualification**Memberships**:

- Full membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS/FRICS)**Technical skills**:
