**Job Purpose**

Responsible for the delivery of Radioactive Materials (RAM) transport criticality safety analysis activities and NTS managed R&D projects, for a variety of internal and external customers and projects.

Working under supervision and guidance from the Criticality Safety Capability Specialist or Criticality Safety Specialist

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed (Essential/ Desirable)**

Typical qualifications, experience and skills required are:

- Have a good knowledge on the physics of criticality safety (E).
- Produce criticality safety assessments adhering to the IAEA SSR-6 Transport Regulations and supporting guidance (E).
- Ability to run and check criticality safety modelling calculations and interpret the results; using codes such as MONK or SCALE (E).
- Understanding of other technical disciplines including shielding, licensing and Engineering D&A, which contribute to the overall safety of a transport package (E).
- Work towards chartered status or membership of a professional institute (D).
- Maintain and expand personal expertise and demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of ongoing developments within the criticality safety field (E).
- Ability to support definition of scopes of work, including support to the development of technical risk identification and mitigation strategies (D).
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with other areas of NTS and or the Client to ensure studies undertaken build knowledge that can support delivery solutions (E).
