We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate in Net Zero Aligned Offsetting, who will play a key role in establishing a new research programme focused on offsetting and finance. In 2020, the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group (OxSFG) together with colleagues across the University, published the
_Oxford Principles for Net Zero Aligned Carbon Offsetting_. The Principles have been influential in the emerging theory and practice of offsetting and the role of offsetting in helping non-state actors deliver net zero commitments. The postholder will work with the authors of the Principles to develop and extend this work, especially in the context of finance and investment.

The successful applicant will be responsible for advancing tools, metrics, theory and practice related to net zero aligned offsetting, carrying out world-leading high impact research. You will also provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students, and/or project volunteers. You will also the opportunity to contribute to wider OxSFG and CGFI activities and initiatives and collaborate with researchers across the University and in our partner institutions. You will prepare working theories and analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining theories as appropriate. You will develop ideas for generating research income and collaborate in the preparation of research publications, and book chapters.

You will hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in net zero aligned carbon offsetting. You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. The ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities is essential.

This is a fixed term post for 17 months with the possibility of extension depending on funding.
