Our volunteers are an invaluable part of the hospital team. Working with us in a volunteering role means you're playing a part in delivering the best possible care to our patients and their families.

We are looking for volunteers for our Passenger Vehicles, which provides an essential service in the hospital both for visitors around the hospital and essentially supporting discharged patients’ home.

**We are looking for volunteers for the following support**:

- Indoor Buggy Drivers
- Outdoor Buggy Drivers
- Discharge Car Drivers
- Discharge Car Buddy (driving licence not required)

As a Passenger Transport volunteer, you will be given full training to be able to support either, or all of the transport vehicles we have. All drivers require a full, clean UK driving licence and 3 years’ experience. You will also be required to do Wheelchair training as part of this role.

All of our roles listed above are hugely rewarding for our volunteers to be able to support in.

Indoor & Outdoor Buggy
- To greet and chat with patients or visitors on arrival and provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.
- To transport visitors to their appointments.
- To transport visitors to the wards.
- To ensure that full training is undertook to enable you to transport visitors safely to their destination.
- Only transport to areas where your vehicle allows e.g., indoor buggy is not allowed into the car parks

Car Discharge
- To provide a comprehensive volunteer car service for the hospital to transport discharged patients to their homes.
- To always work closely with another volunteer to support the discharged patient safely to the car and into their homes.
- To work with the volunteer services team and discharge team to highlight any areas of concern whilst adhering to all trust guidelines.
- To assist patients identified by the team to be transported home into a wheelchair if required.
- To greet and chat with the patient discharged providing a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.
- To put the patient at ease on their journey home.

Car Discharge - Buddy
- To provide passenger support to the discharge car driver with all their duties (apart from driving)

Volunteers cannot replace the role of a paid employee
