Senior Environmental Health Officer - West Lancashire Borough Council (HYBRID WORKING)

We are looking for a **Senior Environmental Health Officer**

**We are currently working with West Lancashire Borough Council to help recruit for a Senior Environmental Health Officer,**

Key Objectives
- To carry out interventions and regulatory activities under all relevant food safety, health and safety, public health, having regard to agreed procedures, work instructions and Codes of Practice; to advise on standards and take enforcement action as necessary; to investigate accidents under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and pursue appropriate action as necessary.
- To examine food for fitness for human consumption, to seize unfit food and ensure its proper disposal, taking appropriate formal or informal action as necessary; to investigate food complaints and pursue appropriate action as necessary; to assist in taking action in response to Food Standards Agency incidents and to inspect imported foodstuffs following requests from Port Health Authorities.
- To investigate food safety and/or health and safety complaints and take appropriate formal or informal action as necessary.
- To design, co-ordinate and supervise sampling programmes for food and drinking water, as required by the Principal Environmental Health Officer (Food and H&S) or Environmental Health Manager, and to pursue appropriate action as necessary.
- To investigate infectious disease/food poisoning notifications, liaise with Regulatory Officers (Food and Safety) with regard to investigations and monitor such activity until incidents have been satisfactorily resolved; and undertake such other duties relating to infectious disease control/food poisoning as may be required by the Principal Environmental Health Officer (Food and H&S) or the Environmental Health Manager.
- To supervise Regulatory Officers (Food and Safety) and provide them with training and support; to provide advice and guidance to Pest Control Officers with regard to pests in food premises and to assist in the training of student Environmental Health Officers and students from other health-related disciplines.
- To achieve personal work programme targets and to meet pre-set deadlines; to keep records and prepare reports, and to assist in the completion of statistical returns as required by the Environmental Health Manager.
- To keep the Principal Environmental Health Officer (Food and H&S) and Environmental Health Manager informed about controversial and sensitive issues and about the level of performance of technical staff
- To undertake all duties in an efficient and consistent manner.
- To provide support to the Corporate Health and Safety Officers, as directed by the Principal Environmental Health Officer (Food and H&S) and/or Environmental Health Manager.
- To work outside normal office hours when required to do so by the Principal Environmental Health Officer or Environmental Health Manager.
- To participate in the out-of-hours standby service.
