Job Introduction
We're looking for a multi-skilled Technical Operator to join the BBC East Midlands regional news team on a permanent contract.

BBC East Midlands Today is one of the country’s most watched news programmes, covering the Counties of Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire working closely with three local radio stations, and associated digital platforms as well as a full range of weekly programmes.

You will be based in the Nottingham newsroom and work across a range of technical disciplines. The tech team is made up of highly skilled and creative staff, working closely with our editorial colleagues to provide high-quality output across two bulletins at 1830 and 2230 local time as well as Breakfast bulletins, weekends and the Sunday Politics show. You will be line managed by the Operations Manager and be part of a dynamic, ambitious team,

Main Responsibilities

Please note that this role will involve shift work.

You’ll have worked in a broadcast environment on live News programming with proven experience in at least one of the stated technical areas. So for example, as Hub Operator You’ll have had experience of ingesting material and recording from various sources including Lines and Internet based communication apps. You’ll also be familiar with managing the studio area to Health & Safety Executive (HSE) standards. An understanding of the journalistic/ production aims of our output is essential.

Experience of studio floor managing and studio camera ops is also useful.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate an ability to work in a live and often pressurised environment and a willingness to accommodate a flexible working pattern. Previous experience of working in a server-based live news environment is essential, with knowledge of IT systems used, and you’ll show a willingness and ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
