North Shropshire Community Mental Health Service

Band 3 Peer Support Worker
- 22.5hrs

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with lived experience of receiving care in secondary mental health services to join our service as a peer support worker.

This peer support worker role will be a valued member of the North Shropshire community mental health service multi-disciplinary team, using lived experience to come alongside people using services on a one-to-one and group basis to explore peoples own goals and personalised recovery.

Co-production is at the heart of the community mental health transformation and will be vital within the role of peer support worker, in terms of the development of the North Shropshire Community Mental Health Service and the wider lived experience practice and peer support offer in MPFT.

**REPORTS TO**: Joint reporting to service manager and Professional Lead for Lived Experience Practice and Peer Support

**ACCOUNTABLE TO**: Service Manager / Trust Recovery Lead Partner

**RESPONSIBLE FOR**:

- Working directly with an identified caseload of individuals and their carers to provide peer support
- Championing recovery focused ways of working
- To co-design and co-deliver recovery orientated, therapeutic groups and activities as equal partners in the development and delivery of activities.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

**INTERNAL**: All members of staff across the Trust, at all grades; people who use our services and carers across the locality

**EXTERNAL**: All other statutory and non-statutory health and social care services and community groups, general public.

JOB PURPOSE.

Peer support is recognised as a key component of modern mental health and wellbeing provision.

A key feature of this post is to promote individual person centred recovery by drawing on the peer support workers own personal lived experience of mental health challenges and of accessing mental health services.

As a pivotal and highly valued member of the team, peer support workers will have a case load of identified patients who they will work with on both an individual basis and by delivering group interventions, working in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team.

This formalised peer support will allow the post holder to provide a safe space for individuals to talk and make sense of their experiences whilst sharing wisdom from their own recovery to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible.

They will promote choice, self-determination and opportunities and assist the individual to set and achieve their own unique recovery goals, and recognising that each individual’s recovery is a distinctive and deeply personal process.
