Applications are invited for the permanent part time (20 hours per week) post working in the Canolfan Brailsford Sports Centre located on campus at Bangor.

The role is to support the successful and expanding Sports service at Bangor University, and we are seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual to join a pool of gym instructors to assist with the delivery of a safe and customer focussed service at Canolfan Brailsford and St Mary’s student village.

The postholders will support the existing instructor team during large events, open days and busy periods. All sports facilities at Canolfan Brailsford are available to the local community as well as students and staff of the University.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.

Purpose of the Job

To provide a polite, friendly and safe gym and fitness service at Bangor University.

Main

**Responsibilities**:

- To deliver safe and informative inductions to gym users.
- To prescribe exercise programmes to match customer’s requirements.
- Ensure all users follow the regulations associated with the sports facilities, and all safety procedures are adhered to.
- Carry out regular checks of fitness equipment and facilities.
- Carry out minor repairs and daily maintenance of specified equipment.
- To contribute to the overall programme of activities at Canolfan Brailsford, both for students, staff and the public.
- Liaising regularly with other members of the Canolfan Brailsford Fitness team and other University Sport staff.
- You will need to be self-motivated and be able to demonstrate your commitment to high standards of service delivery.
- Following training, follow identified emergency procedures.
- Such other duties as are appropriate, and may from time to time, be requested by the Manager or their nominated staff.

**Responsibilities**:

- The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training
- Essential- A professional qualification in the fitness industry minimum to at least level 2 in Gym Instruction.
- Desirable- Spinning Qualification.
- Circuits Qualification.
- Kettlebells.
- Exercise to Music Qualification.
- Exercise referral qualification.
- CIMSPA/REPS registered.
- First Aid Qualification.

Experience/Knowledge
- Essential- Experience in the health and fitness industry as a staff member or advanced user.
- Experience in delivering customer inductions.
- Experience in taking 1-2-1 sessions.
- Desirable- Experience working with a wide range of clients including elite performers, disabled athletes or other special populations.
- Experience in taking group fitness classes.

Skills/Abilities
- Essential- Good customer care skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal and interactive skills.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and drive.
- Desirable- Good computer skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Experience of working in a bilingual (Welsh and English) and multi-cultural environment.
