**About the role**:
As the Designated Person/Reception Duties Operative you will be responsible for setting up and managing safe systems of work as the designated person on duty, where you will make sure our standard operating procedures are carried out in a safe, efficient manner. You will also support the safe movement of trains, maintenance and cleaning activities throughout Heaton Depot.
- This role comes with dual responsibility, you will be nominated as a designated person on a rostered basis, the remaining roster turns you will be allocated as a Reception’s Duty operative.

**Key responsibilities**:
This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

- Stepping up to the duties of a Designated Person, once qualified on a rostered basis
- Setting up and managing safe systems of work within the boundaries of Heaton depot
- Application and removal of the depot shed road protection system
- Fueling, water replenishment and CET duties as required.
- Carrying out nose end cleaning duties on the rolling stock
- Playing an active role in ensuring that production targets are met
- Carrying out light maintenance on all depot rolling stock to include, but not exhaustive, the replenishment of fuel, sand, ad-blue and water.

**About you**:
You will have great communication skills, both written and oral. You’ll also be able to work confidently on your own initiative, as this is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same. No specific qualifications are essential, as all training that is required to carry out these roles will be provided.
- We’re also looking for the following:

- Ability to demonstrate a methodical approach to working activities in a safety critical environment.
- Rail operational experience and sound knowledge of an operational depot, but this is not essential.
- Knowledge of operational depots or similar environments, or previous cleaning experience would be useful.
