Job Purpose

The role of Steward is integral to the smooth running of the Centre during the week and weekends working on a rota basis. Their attitude in ensuring that the Centre is clean and safe for users, is an important part of the team spirit required to make the Centre a place where people want to come.

Fitness Instructor qualification and experience is desirable but not essential.

**Role**

Ensuring the safety of both the centre users and centre facilities remain of high priority and to ensure

Smooth running of block and ad-hoc bookings.

Work in conjunction with all members of staff to ensure maximum use of the centre is made.

**Responsibilities**:
**Premises**

**To ensure correct supervision of all facilities both internal and external on a regular basis throughout operational hours.**
- To be responsible for the **security** and distribution of keys, as determined by the Facilities Manager.
- Key holder responsibilities for the safe opening and closing of the building.
- To respond promptly to alarm call-outs as and when necessary.
- To competently carry out security procedures/checks of the centre both internal and external throughout the day in accordance with **operational systems** and procedures of the premises.
- Ensuring high standard of cleanliness of all internal and external areas, including toilets and changing facilities, remain safe for staff and centre users throughout the day.
- To carry out porterage, handy person duties and other duties arising for good operation of the premises.

**Health And Safety**

**Ensuring the health, safety and security of both the centre users and centre facilities.**
- To report all accidents, incidents and building defects immediately to the Centre Manager.
- To ensure Health & Safety procedures and safeguarding policy are followed and adhered to at all times.
- Carry out the correct EAP procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident or major damage.
- Ensuring fire and emergency light systems are checked, tested and logged correctly.
- Undertake training and professional development as required for the role and instruction of the Centre Manager.

**Programme.**

**To ensure the equipment and room layouts are implemented to facilitate planned programmes and activity delivery.**
- Ensure the safe set up and take down and storage of equipment for centre activities in a prompt and timely manner.
- Dealing with enquiries from customers, contractors and members of the public in a professional manner.
- To liaise with Facilities Manager, stewards and reception team to ensure all rooms are prepared for scheduled activities are prepared.

**Other Duties**

To undertake such additional duties as may be reasonably requested by the Centre Manager. Instructor qualification and experience desirable but not essential.

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting directly to the Building Supervisor the principal responsibilities will be:

- Supervision of all indoor and outdoor sporting/activity areas.
- Security of premises and its contents (including operation of fire and burglar alarms).
- Key holder responsibility.
- Lighting, heating and cleaning of the premises including operation of the plant.
- Porterage, handy person duties, and other building duties arising from the use of the premises.
- Oversee staff, volunteers or trainees assigned to stewards by management, who will receive work instructions via the Supervisor/Manager.

**Duties**

**Security of Premises**
- Carrying out security procedures for the Sports Centre and grounds.
- Switching lights on/off as required.
- Checking and securing windows and internal/external doors.
- Switching on/off appropriate alarm systems.
- Ensuring unauthorised parking of vehicles does not occur.
- Carrying out recognised procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accidental or major damage.
- Dealing with enquiries from customers, workmen, contractors and members of the public.
- Ensuring fire and emergency light system are tested regularly, and ensure relevant logs of this are completed.

**Lighting and Heating of Premises**
- Checking and replacing light bulbs/tubes where access is available.
- Operating the heating plant and ancillary heating so that the required temperatures are maintained in the Centre, and that there is an adequate supply of hot water available.
- Good House Keeping.

**Cleaning and Premises**
- Cleaning materials must be issued to cleaners by Stewards and all instructions on usage of all materials are strictly adhered to (due to risk to person or property)
- Ensuring that the Centre (premises and furnishings) are clean in accordance with the set standards and methods.
- Toilets/changing rooms to be visited at various times during the shift to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Drawing consumable items from stock (toilet rolls etc) and distributing to necessary areas.
