The post holder will provide specialist knowledge related to clinical informatics; working collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure patient and clinical involvement in the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of systems and services. Areas of responsibility will include non-medical clinical communication and engagement, training, and go-live support.

The Digital Clinical Implementer role supports the CCIO in providing clinical leadership and implementation of Digital delivery and development activity to support the safe and efficient design, implementation, and use of digital solutions to achieve improvements in the quality and outcomes of care in accordance with our Digital Strategy.

The overall purpose of the Digital Clinical Implementer role is to support and deliver a patient centric and outcomes based integrated care model for the Trust that is technically and financially sustainable, and to promote the effective use of data, information, knowledge, and technology to support and improve health, health research, and healthcare delivery.

The role of the Digital Clinical Implementer is therefore, to support Digital Services in undertaking a wide range of informatics/digital related projects, some of which may require implementation across all Clinical Services within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The job holder will plan, implement, and manage a portfolio of projects under the supervision of the CCIO for Nursing and AHPs.

The job holder is expected to provide strong leadership for delivering and supporting the implementation of project outcomes across all clinical areas within The Christie to support the strategic aims of Digital services. Be responsible for non-medical clinical communication and engagement, training and go-live support determined by the project portfolio which will include undertaking clinical audits, assessments, and evaluation of care.

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management and Leadership

Provide leadership for non-medical clinical staff at all levels regarding clinical workflow, to ensure successful implementation of technology that benefits patient care and achieves expected outcomes.

Provide leadership for non-medical clinical staff using informatics/technology, promoting the best professional standards in a technology field to support clinical practice.

Work collaboratively with Digital, Information Technology, and Health Information Systems, medical and operational leaders to assess new informatics technology opportunities that impact/improve clinical documentation, workflow efficiency and patient safety.

Collaborate with operational activities identified in the project plan to manage and implement defined projects targets, notifying the project manager when issues or problems occur. This will involve initiating, planning, and organising work packages.

Develop effective communication with nurses, AHPs, and other healthcare professionals to foster a good understanding of clinical informatics systems and the roles and responsibilities of staff who use them.

IT Systems and Digital Solutions

Use clinical knowledge, judgement, and experience to determine how to configure and use clinical IT systems for non-medical clinical processes, particularly where opinions differ on the best approach.

Educate IT colleagues on healthcare operations and clinical processes to ensure that safe, patient-centric, and user-friendly systems are designed.

Guide Electronic Health Record (EHR) and health IT systems design and implementation, evaluation, and options from the non-medical clinical practice perspective.

Collate and document feedback, issues and comments from users and managers and use the feedback and their professional judgement to develop processes and future system improvements.

Use clinical knowledge, judgement, and experience to develop policies and procedures (and associated documentation) in relation to projects and for ‘business as usual’ teams following implementation.

Carry out audit work related to clinical informatics/digital systems.
