Associate Scientist

Primarily working in defence, QinetiQ provides Subject Matter Expertise to support its customers in understanding the performance and capability of their combat systems. With the explosion in technology advances, improved communication and data transfer services and the advance of unmanned vehicles and autonomous systems, this new fast-paced world requires us to be able to advise and support our customers in a more agile way. To achieve this we research, explore, model, design, prototype, test and assess existing and new sensor and combat system technologies and capabilities.

We are looking for capable and enthusiastic Engineers, Scientists and Mathematicians to join our team in Portsmouth developing innovative solutions and providing expert advice for our customers, primarily in the maritime domain. You will develop competencies across broad areas of sensing and situational awareness, helping the Royal Navy to improve system performance on current platforms as well as advancing future technologies by:
Developing modelling and analysis tools to support assessment activities on a range of programmes focussed on key areas such as radar and communications;
Implementing novel solutions, including signal processing, to enhance the performance of maritime sensors and systems and their integration;
Designing demonstrator systems and progressing research to set direction for future capability.

To be successful we are looking for individuals with good analytical skills, able to make evaluative judgements based on modelling and simulation or analysis of information. This may be well suited to those with:
A Physics, Computing or Mathematical Science background;
Experience with high level languages such as MATLAB, Python, R or equivalent;
Sound communications skills to exchange complex information both within the team and with external partners and customers.

Interest or broad understanding of the maritime domain (particularly in defence) would be beneficial, but you will have all the support and professional development opportunities you need to make a real impact for our customers.

**Experience & Qualifications**:
A first degree in Science, Engineering or Mathematics, or an equivalent, nationally recognised professional qualification;
Ideally, you will have demonstrable experience working as part of technical and non-technical teams in an applicable domain.
