**Role Purpose**

Execute Tool Design activities within the Function and support on the management of Supplier Tool Design activities. Accountable for Policy, Procedures and Configuration Control of all Tool Design Activities whilst developing the Tool Design skillset within the Function in order to provide a more flexible, cost effective, reactive service to our customers.

**Tooling Designer**

**Salary: From **£41,520 to £45,649**

This opportunity, based at our **Prestwick** site offers:

- 37 hour working week (half day Friday)

**Responsibilities**:

- Liaise with tooling suppliers and other businesses to ensure new technology is considered for both new work packages and steady state contracts.
- Liaise and Manage Customers and Extended Tooling Enterprise, ensuring Tool Design Review process is implemented in line with Customer requirements.
- Provide Tool Design cost estimates and also scrutinise Supplier estimates to ensure the Business continues to get VFM from our Extended Enterprise.
- Provision and management of tool design capability in line with contract requirements, ensuring correct data control procedures are in place to suit Customer requirements.
- Evaluation, management and approval of tooling companies, with respect to Tool Design Capability both local and off-shore to further develop our Extended Enterprise.
- Execute the Tool Design skillset within the Function to ensure we are best placed to provide a productive and reactive service to our Customers.
- Provide advice, where applicable, to Design Engineering Team, to ensure potential Tooling solutions are both cost effective, achievable and meet Customer requirements and specifications.
- Responsibility for reporting metrics on Tool Design workload and escalate resource constraints against customer requirements where required.
- In addition to executing Tool Design related Tool requests, may also be required to fully execute non-Tool Design related Tool Requests.
- May also be requested to support Metrology Driven activities, both from a Tool Design perspective but also on a hands-on equipment basis.

Qualifications:
**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- Applicants should preferably be qualified to HND/Degree level in a related engineering discipline and have relevant professional and technical experience in a tooling environment.
- A willingness to travel to meet the job requirements is also necessary.

**Decision Making Authority**
- Job holder has authority to execute Tool Design activities of all kinds which influence or determine the course of events. Is answerable for the consequences of those decisions and actions and any financial responsibility or impact can affect the Departmental Budgets.
- Is involved in direct liaison with Customers, both internal and external, and Suppliers.
- Can make decisions on placement of orders and can make improvements within budgetary constraints.
- Is involved in forming business strategy with the Department Manager but requires Managerial authority to proceed.
- High level of analytical, evaluative and innovative thought required.
