The Welsh Transplant Laboratory, based within the headquarters of the Welsh Blood Service in Talbot Green, near Cardiff, has a vacancy for the Deputy Head of Transplantation Services to join our team.

The post holder will also lead on specific projects contributing to service strategy and development, and take the lead role for managing scientific training. There is the expectation to participate in the laboratory Consultant on-call rota for out of hours support for solid organ transplantation.

The post holder will also deputise for the Head of Transplantation Services across their range of responsibilities including UK NEQAS for H&I and the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry. This will include attendance at Welsh Blood Service Senior Leadership Meetings and appropriate Trust committee meetings.

Accountable for ensuring effective, efficient and safe delivery of high-quality services within the Transplant Laboratories including the achievement of key performance targets.

Provision of clinical leadership and guidance in the field of histocompatibility and Immunogenetics

To act with a high degree of autonomy to make clinical decisions at Consultant Clinical Scientist level

Responsibility for delivering specific laboratory and/or cross-cutting programmes of work including transformation/service improvement projects working closely with the Head of Transplantation Services

Provide expert scientific advice and in conjunction with the Head of Transplantation Services support the strategic and operational direction of Transplantation Services

Participate at a senior level within the wider scientific transplant communities on behalf of the WBS creating effective partnerships and relationships with national networks to support benchmarking and help shape the future direction of transplantation services.

Work professionally with, the Head of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance to ensure regulatory and professional aspects of the Transplant Laboratories functions are adhered to.

Participate in the Consultant Clinical Scientist out of hours on-call service for solid organ transplantation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
