**About the Role**

The Institute for Global Sustainable Development (IGSD) in the School for Cross-faculty Studies is looking for an enthusiastic, committed, and collegial individual who will develop their own research portfolio, in the broad area of global sustainable development, with a particular focus on planetary issues, environmental governance, resilience and complex ecosystems, to complement the IGSD’s existing research streams.

We are looking for someone with an interdisciplinary research agenda and transdisciplinary research skills to focus on one or more of the following areas:

- Environmental sustainability and governance
- Planetary challenges and ways to address them
- Climate change and resilience, with a wide geographic focus on indigenous communities and their adaptation to planetary challenges.

Research experience of working in areas of the Global South would be advantageous. You will work collegially with the Director of the Institute for Global Sustainable Development in the School for Cross-faculty Studies and its core team to contribute to the development of the future vision of IGSD.

IGSD is an innovative and agile cross-faculty research institute that forms part of a strategic investment by the University of Warwick to support global sustainable development research. Our mission is to be a gateway to transdisciplinary research on global sustainable development across and beyond Warwick, i.e. research that crosses disciplinary borders and includes non-academic stakeholder communities to positively impact some of today’s most pressing global challenges.

IGSD facilitates connections that transcend boundaries of disciplines by bringing together researchers in social science, humanities and natural sciences to catalyse social, economic and environmental change. We help to create equitable multi-stakeholder partnerships to co-produce knowledge and act as a focal point for world-class research with transformative impact towards addressing sustainable development challenges such as: climate resilience and socio-environmental justice; sustainable urbanisation, health and wellbeing; sustainable economies and the food-water-energy nexus. We engage critically and constructively with sustainable development frameworks such as Agenda 2030 and develop innovative transdisciplinary methods for co-producing research whilst empowering local stakeholders and communities to achieve positive change.

As a research institute, IGSD aims to support you in building an ambitious research programme. In addition, it is anticipated that the postholder will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the School for Cross-faculty Studies, therefore, the ability to teach across programmes and a desire to supervise students is required.

Our team consists of a permanent core team of researchers supported by research enablers. In addition to this and to support the research thematics, are IGSD Thematic Fellows and Honorary Fellows who are not part of the core team but support the expansion of the critical mass of the research.
