As an organisation we support flexible working. This role allows hybrid working (a mix of home and office working) and a working pattern suitable for you can be discussed on appointment if you are successful.

You will be contracted to the NRW location stated in this advert, of which you will be required to attend for regular meetings, training and for one-to-one meetings with your manager. These will be planned in advance.

**Job description**:
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with and lead a dedicated group of people and be part of a high performing team which has a broad remit. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will lead the team’s delivery across a range of activities including regulation, incidents as well as working with a variety of partners and customers. No two days are the same as the role contains a mix of planned and reactive work.

The Team Leader will have a technical appreciation of the whole team remit (Environment Management, Protected Sites, Fisheries and Biodiversity work) as well as Incident Management. They will take an active role in setting and managing priorities and regulatory responses within the ‘Place’. They will be expected to lead on or champion a specific area of work at a place or directorate level.

The post holder will be required to develop an extensive stakeholder network and a crucial aspect of this role will be nurturing and supporting partnership working outside of NRW to secure the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) and wellbeing outcomes.

**Where this role sits**

This role sits in the Operations Directorate within North-East Wales. The post is one of 2 Environment Team Leaders within North-East Operations and is one of 6 team leader roles reporting to the North-East Operations Manager.

The Flintshire & Wrexham Environment Team delivers much of the front line proactive regulatory and advisory remit of NRW, including enforcement and incident management. The teams are key enablers of NRW’s Corporate Plan objectives, both directly and through working with others by exercising our range of statutory duties. They also deliver pro-active work in partnership with community groups and others to deliver Wellbeing & PSB outcomes in place.

The teams work particularly closely with other NRW Environment Teams, our Regulatory teams and our People & Places team. Externally the team works with public authorities, community groups and a broad range of industries and sectors.

**Responsibilities**:
Your responsibilities include:

- Developing and implementing local work plans to deliver our regulatory and SMNR aspirations.
- Engage and collaborate with relevant stakeholders.
- Responsible for regulatory decisions at place level, ensuring adherence to the Regulators Code and our Regulatory Principles.
- Responsible for authorising regulatory and enforcement decisions within the team remit, including protected sites assents and consents.
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of team members by implementing and monitoring safe working practices and risk assessments.
- Budgetary control of team spending.
- Would be expected to also lead a virtual technical team to support place-based delivery.
- Play a senior role in a resilient NRW non-Flood Incident Management Service that follows NRW process.
- Required to take part in incident response activities

**Qualifications, experience and knowledge**:
Knowledge and experience of the following:

- Experience of line management. (essential)
- Coaching and mentoring skills. (essential)
- Experience of community liaison and public engagement activities. (desirable)
- Strong organisational, time management and interpersonal skills.
- Good understanding of the local environment and pressures relevant to the team remit.
- Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining issues and gaining support by influencing.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of regulatory and enforcement processes.
- Hold a current full UK valid licence to drive NRW fleet vehicles. (cars and vans)

**Welsh language requirements**:
**Essential Level 1** - able to pronounce Welsh and use basic phrases

**Desirable Level 3** -** able to pronounce Welsh in some work situations
