**As Senior Policy Officer, you’ll play a vital role in setting out Rethink Mental Illness’s position as a thought leader and key stakeholder in the mental health sector and support the organisation to influence and create lasting change. With a working knowledge of the mental health policy environment and levers for change, you will be able to understand complex policy issues, recognise their relevance to Rethink Mental Illness, and identify policy solutions.**

You will understand how you can bring about change and feel comfortable doing so proactively and collaboration with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders at all levels. You will know how to generate and analyse data and bring issues to life by drawing out the lived experience of people severely affected by mental illness. A persuasive writer, you will be able to draw effectively on evidence to produce credible policy reports, briefings, blogs, and consultation responses.

**What I do and achieve**
- I identify and analyse key issues in mental health services facing people severely affected by mental illness.
- I work with people with lived experience, professionals, decision makers and parliamentarians to build our reputation in this policy area and develop and test credible policy messages.
- I track, interpret and manipulate internal and external mental health and policy data and ensure it informs our work.
- I analyse external policy research, reports, and parliamentary and government activity to develop policy and influencing opportunities for Rethink Mental Illness and feed into existing policy and plans.
- I write credible, persuasive policy reports, briefings, blogs and other outputs to influence policy change and promote Rethink Mental Illness as thought leaders and help achieve their aims.
- I monitor developments in Westminster and arms-length bodies and analyse their relevance to our work
- I respond to policy consultations.
- I deliver surveys and consultations aimed at external stakeholders and people with lived experience, and analyse their findings to feed into policy messaging and solutions.
- I provide expert policy and influencing advice to senior staff.
- I represent Rethink Mental Illness at events and meetings
- I work with internal stakeholders to influence and achieve change.

**Who I am?**
- I have a good working knowledge of the current mental health policy environment and levers for policy change.
- I am adept at developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external contacts
- I have experience of successfully analysing the external environment and identifying policy solutions.
- I have an interest in creating change, and a good understanding of influencing parliament, arms-length bodies, and external stakeholders.
- I have an understanding of quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis skills.
- I have experience of using policy research methods to get insights from service users and policy makers to develop and deliver credible policy messaging and solutions.
- I am quick to understand complex policy issues and their relevance to an organisation.
- I work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders to achieve impactful outcomes.
- I have excellent persuasive writing skills which I can adapt for different audiences.
- I can prioritise workload demands and positively respond to unforeseen challenges.
- I deal with stressful and difficult situations in a calm manner.
- **Appointments will be at the minimum of the bands.**:
