The purpose of the post of Trust Chaplain with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust is to provide along with the team, spiritual care and based upon the holistic definition of health as defined by the World Health Organisation in 1948 and emphasised in NHS Chaplaincy Guidelines 2015 to 'provide skilled and compassionate pastoral, spiritual or religious support for patients, carers and staff facing situations which are at times harrowing and stressful. The Hospital Chaplain is responsible for, along with the multi denomination team provision of the Chaplaincy Services. There will be appropriate concern and provision for all denomination as well as those of other faiths, or of no faith. The post holder, and will belong to the local clergy chapter or equivalent if Free Church or Roman Catholic.

They will be able to obtain endorsement from the Bishop of Portsmouth or their own Christian denomination, represented as a member of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. 1. Communication and Relationships Communication is a key aspect of this role which is rooted in: 1.1 Listening - Principally to patients, their relatives and members of staff and being involved in training and supporting chaplaincy volunteers with in the necessary skills to undertake this task. 1.2 Teaching - Members of staff about the role of chaplaincy, especially highlighting the importance of spiritual care.

1.3 Public speaking - at Chapel and church Services and telling the wider community about the Chaplaincy Service. 1.4 Attendance at meetings withing the hospital i.e team meetings, reflective practice, Palliative care MDT when required. 1.5 To record contacts, in line with chaplaincy department requirements. 2.

Analysis and Judgement 2.1 To asses and prioritise the spiritual needs of patients and staff, and contributing to the overall strategy for the Chaplaincy Service. 2.2 To show knowledge of a range of religion and faiths; to possess degree plus post ordination experience. 2.3 To show comparison of a range of facts before advising staff, patients or carers on spiritual issues.
