**“Engage today, inspire forever - shaping the future for Shakespeare”.**
The Learning Department at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust has an international reputation for excellence. We pride ourselves on our longstanding relationship with schools, universities, and lifelong learners around the world, inspiring students of all ages at our sites in Stratford-upon-Avon and through our growing innovative digital courses and resources.
The Learning Department team is seeking to appoint an energetic Lead Secondary Practitioner who is passionate about creating and delivering a vibrant programme that brings Shakespeare to life for a young, diverse audience. You will deliver in-house and outreach sessions for schools (KS3 - A Level), that connects both to curriculum demands and a deeper, contemporary exploration of Shakespeare. In collaboration with colleagues and freelance teams which you will lead, you will work into key projects such as Shakespeare Week and our partner Hub Schools programme; and lead on the development of key partnerships with schools, MATs and individual teachers.
You may have a post-graduate qualification in teaching, Shakespeare or English Literature / Drama / Theatre Studies; or equivalent levels of relevant professional experience in delivering drama or literature Shakespeare programmes. You will have proven experience of dynamic and inspirational teaching in secondary school settings including large groups, inspiring students who might be resistant to Shakespeare study, and the ability to develop CPD interventions for teachers at both sessional and strategic level.
You will have a firm understanding of the challenges schools currently face, with the experience and dynamism to find solutions. You will possess comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and the major exam board programmes of study for GCSE English and History. You will have a working knowledge of school structure at KS3 and 4 e.g. MATs, Local authority, Faith and Free schools, and be up to date with current education debates
- e.g. Ofsted, Wellbeing, or the take-up of arts and Humanities options. Above all you will view Shakespeare’s world and work as a living and inspirational arena in which to contribute.
