Are you passionate about protecting and enhancing the environment? We have an exciting opportunity to join our North West non-nuclear Radioactive Substances Regulation (nnRSR) Team.
- You will be responsible for the regulation of a portfolio of sites, ensuring compliance under the Environmental Permitting Regulations. The Environment Agency regulates a range of activities that affect the environment, people and the economy. You will have the opportunity to create a better place for people and wildlife through the regulation of radioactive substances.- You will ensure radioactive materials are kept and used in a secure environment.
- You will undertake inspections and audits at permitted sites, ensuring compliance, taking enforcement action when required and contributing to both security of radioactive sources and protection of the environment.
- You will assess the impacts of discharges of radioactive materials into the environment to ensure the protection of the public and the environment.
- You will help to deliver the Environment Agency’s corporate plan by achieving the environmental outcomes set out by the non-nuclear radioactive substances sector.
- You will respond to and investigate incidents and non-compliance events making sure suitable preventative and protective action is implemented.
The team
- This post covers sites across the North West. The area provides a diverse range of environmental challenges and this is an exciting and challenging time to join Radioactive Substances Regulation.
- Location can be flexible across the area but regular travel to Warrington will be expected.
- You will also have a key role in supporting the wider Area and Regulated Industry teams, giving technical advice and support on complex regulatory issues.
Experience/skills required
- We are seeking proactive, self-motivated and confident communicators with practical operational experience and understanding of environmental regulation.
- You will be able to demonstrate:
- Significant regulatory and industrial experience across a range of industries.
- Excellent influencing skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.
- Experience in delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
- Ability to manage multiple demands on time in a prioritised manner to achieve outcomes and deliver against plans.
- A proven track record of taking initiative and using a continuous improvement approach.
- An honours degree (or equivalent) is desirable, ideally in a science or engineering discipline.
- Chartered status or working towards chartered status with a relevant professional institution is desirable. The Environment Agency supports professional development to achieve and maintain chartered status and you will be supported to gain your Radioactive Waste Compliance Advisor (RWCA) accreditation.
