**Your new role**

We have an exciting opportunity for x2 Strategy Leads to join National Highways Strategy Unit, which is responsible for leading and coordinating the development of strategic plans on cross-cutting issues that have high important and/or impact on National Highways objectives and vision.

The role is responsible for developing strategic plans for which the Strategy Unit is responsible, and for providing expertise and support for the development of strategic plans for which other National Highways teams are responsible. In doing so, the role will be responsible for collating, commissioning and making use of support evidence. A key part of the role is to foster and maintain a productive network of “thought leader” stakeholders and contribute to the development of Highways and Transport policy thinking and development.

**What you’ll be leading on**
- Coordinate the development of strategic plans on cross-cutting issues, which are identified in the prioritised rolling programme, and which are identified for the Strategy Unit to produce. In the development of these strategies, advise and engage with National Highways SMEs, and (as appropriate) Officials at the Department for Transport and other Government Departments.
- Provide expertise and challenge to support the development of strategic plans which are for other National Highways teams to deliver.
- Build, maintain, and actively engage with a network of internal and external “thoughtleader” stakeholders that are involved in developing, shaping and influencing highways and transport policy. Commission and/or create evidence to support, inform and shape the development of strategic plans.

**To be successful you’ll need**
- Developing strategies and strategic plans in a highly visible, transparent and scrutinised environment in Government and/or a regulated/monitored organisation.
- Strong communications skills and evidence of relationship-building and senior level engagement. Experience of presenting complex and technical information with senior colleagues at Executive level. Ability to communicate technical and complex information to a broad, non-technical audience.
- A strong understanding strategic challenges, social attitudes, political picture, market forces, trends, and advances in transportation and infrastructure
- Leadership skills and the ability to set direction, including defining clear requirements of others and ensuring high quality deliverables.
- Solid analytical skills to explore and understand complex data information: analytical, financial and technical.
