For this post you need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to work proactively in a multidisciplinary team environment. You will be expected to support the Occupational Therapy Team with various recovery based interventions both on the ward and off the ward.

The Occupational Therapy team at Brockfield House consists of qualified OTs, activity coordinators with fitness level 3 training, employment and education coordinator. There is a good balance between mental health therapies and physical health interventions.

To oversee the development and implementation of vocational and educational support within secure forensic mental health teams including:

- Manage a caseload of people who wish to return to work, enabling them to find or retain employment by liaising with work and training providers, accessing benefits advice and by personally providing on-going support to service users in job search and after gaining employment, in accordance with the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported employment.
- Working collaboratively with outside agencies to provide work focussed pathways for service users to achieve vocational goals such as education and voluntary work.
- Coordinate educational needs of service users within the unit and with support from vocational services manager commission services, or provide support, as necessary to fulfil those needs in core curriculum areas.

Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

If you are joining our Trust in a fixed term role, please indicate on your New Starter Paperwork that you wish to join our staff bank.

1. 1. To work in partnership with MDT to provide to meet individual service users’ vocational and educational needs.

2. To develop strong links with other agencies such as voluntary, educational and businesses in the development of work and learning opportunities for service users.

3. To support MDT colleagues with information about work and training opportunities.

4. To report on outcomes and relevant outcome measures for the service.

5. To provide monitoring/audit information to the Team Manager.

6. Prepare individuals for employment etc. by assessing each person’s individual vocational needs which might typically include identifying strengths, help with benefits, support networks, travel to work plans, etc.

7. Draw up an agreed vocational action plan with the individual, and provide this to the care co-ordinator and other professionals.

9. Accompany service users to interviews if required.

10. Provide job retention interventions to service users at risk of losing their employment, negotiating adjustments to the job role with employers to enable the person to retain their employment.

11. Contribute to the opportunities for an individual’s increased social inclusion by developing partnership working with voluntary sector agencies, and linking with primary care employment and job retention initiatives.

12. To promote best practice within mental health and employment in the hospital, the Trust and in other organisations in the local area.

13. To liaise with external agencies including

- Department for Work & Pensions, Condition Management Programme
- Voluntary Sector organisations
- Social enterprises

14. To contribute to research, policy and service development in mental health and employment at a local and national level.
