Responsible for leading the development and co-ordination of the Trusts health & safety, VAPR and security management Strategies. Lead on all Health and Safety matters ensuring organisational compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act To contribute to the Corporate Governance/Risk Management agenda, ensuring that risk management processes across the organisation are integrated in line with the organisational risk management and assurance policy and monitor their effectiveness To represent the Trust at external meetings as appropriate To deputise for other Heads of departments in the Directorate during periods of annual leave or absence Establish and maintain databases/ spreadsheets on a range of issues as required with accurate records and distribution lists Develop networks and effective communication with Directors/ Associate Directors and other stakeholders in relation to the activities of the Directorate The post holder will be responsible for the systematic identification, recording, evaluation and mitigation of risks arising from non-compliance with statutory legislation relating to the management of Health and Safety within the Trust Undertake specific responsibilities as identified by the Head of Risk and Incident Management or Associate Director/Director of Risk and Compliance commensurate with the role and pay band of the post. To be responsible for maintaining robust systems for reporting to the Health and Safety executive those incidents that are reportable under the Reporting of Injuries, Disease and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations (RIDDOR) and ensure that incidents are fully investigated. Lead on the implementation of the Health and Safety/VAPR standards within the appropriate Fundamental Standards of the Care Quality Commission and contribute to the wider governance agenda.

To be responsible for monitoring the quality of the risk assessments/inspections/audit outcomes and provide training and documentation to meet the required standards for completion of Health and Safety risk assessments and the risk management system. To lead on the continuous improvement in relation to Health and Safety and VAPR within the Trust directed by national policy, developing action plans and supporting their implementation. To be responsible for identifying funding and resource opportunities in to Health and Safety and VAPR including education, training and development programmes. Identify opportunities for shared learning and governance arrangements with partner organisations.

Exercise judgement in updating reports in appropriate formats, which may involve the provision and receipt of complex, conflicting and sensitive information for analysis, assessment and conflict resolution Have an awareness of emerging risks within the organisation including external horizon scanning as appropriate Manage and maintain and use innovation to develop the intranet page for Health & Safety and VAPR functions. To be responsible for ensuring the annual ligature programme is planned and completed in line with policy.
