We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated, inspirational Careers Advisor to help our students achieve or exceed their full potential. This is an exciting role, and it will involve travelling to our DCS schools located around the world. The post offers hybrid working from the DCS Headquarters in Upavon and the opportunity to complete a Careers Advisor qualification and continuous professional development opportunities.

Defence Children Services (DCS) is a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon and has forward deployed staff all over the world. DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings; provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world.

The Specialist Support Service (DCS-SSS) is made up of individual teams with specific responsibility for activity that supports the education and care of children of Service and other entitled personnel. The service is led by the Assistant Head (Specialist Support Service). Teams in the Specialist Support Service work with the children, families, and schools in DCS Schools and Settings, and support the education of UK Service children and families across the world. Specialist Support Service teams focus on Safeguarding, Overseas Supportability, Special Educational Needs, Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Support, Elective Home Education, Education Welfare and Social Work, Education Advice for Service Families in the UK and other areas of Defence, Training, Assessment and Careers Education in support of Service Children. All activity is aimed to meet the needs of Service children and their families in respect of effective education, mitigating the challenges of mobility and promoting the positive opportunities of service life.

The Training, Assessment and Careers Team (DCS-SSS-TACT) are based at Upavon and have forward deployed trainers and assessors in the Headquarters for Rest of World and Cyprus. The team are led by the SEO Training, Assessment and Careers. The team provide careers advice, training, and accredited opportunities for staff in all parts of the DCS organisation, and children and young people in all DCS school.

**Job description**
- Provide professional advice and guidance to school teams to develop an age-appropriate careers programme (from FS2 to Y13) and supports schools’ monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on the effectiveness of the career guidance programme in achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks and the Quality in Careers Standard.
- Conduct client-focused, impartial, personal career guidance interviews with pupils which challenge and support them to make informed, realistic, and adaptable career decisions.
- Communicate with relevant external agencies and networks for the benefit of pupils and the enhancement of the career guidance programme.
- Involve parents and carers, where relevant, in the career guidance programme and support provided to their child and attend parents’ evenings as required.
- Generate and maintain client records electronically in support of personal guidance interviews, including a summary of agreed actions/action plan.
- Use expert knowledge of careers information and labour market information and Intelligence to support pupils to identify, access, interpret and utilise valid and current information that is relevant to them, including the appropriate use of information technology, e.g., social media and web-based information sources.
- Prioritise 1:1 intervention for vulnerable students under direction of school leaders and refer to specialist services if required to support specific needs of pupils.
- To liaise and negotiate with other organisations with, and on behalf of, young people.
- To ensure school safeguarding processes are followed
- Overseas travel to DCS schools and settings

**Qualifications**
- Willingness to attain appropriate Careers Guidance qualification, within 3 months of appointment to the role.

**Knowledge and experience**
- Have previous experience of a career’s guidance role in the UK, preferably in a school setting
- Have a detailed understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks
- Have thorough knowledge of education, employment, training and personal development opportunities that are available for young people.
