Equine Studies Lecturer

The National Horseracing College seeks to appoint an Equine Studies Lecturer to join its enthusiastic, vibrant, and hardworking team. The successful applicant will be responsible for riding and stable management tuition for our Doncaster Equine College, horse care courses (Level 1 to Level 3).
It is essential that applicants possess a Level 3 Diploma in Horse Management or equivalent qualification, and they also need to hold a teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent), and be prepared to achieve an Assessor qualification.
Relevant vocational experience in the Equine industry and of working in the educational sector with young people is essential. You should be highly motivated, an excellent communicator and be able to work as part of a team.
**Working hours are**:
- Monday 8.30am - 4.00pm
- Tuesday - Friday -8.30am - 5.00pm
**ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Equine Studies Lecturer is accountable for the design, delivery, and assessment of learning programmes within the appropriate curriculum area(s).
**MAIN DUTIES**
**1.** **Curriculum Delivery**
1.1 To deliver guided learning hours (GLH) in accordance with the Doncaster Equine College (DEC) course programmes (Level 1 to Level 3).
1.2 To research and prepare learning materials.
1.3 Develop resources for the Doncaster Equine College (DEC) programmes.
1.4 To assess students in accordance with awarding body specifications.
1.5 To contribute to the internal verification of assessments.
1.6 To ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
1.7 To maintain records of attendance and registers as required.
1.8 To maintain records on learner progress and attainment ie for the particular units/learning outcomes.
**2.** **Learner Support and** **Learner Mentoring**
2.1 To provide pre-entry advice and guidance to potential learners prior to enrolment and whilst on the course.
2.2 To support in the coordination and delivery of an appropriate induction to learners.
2.3 To support the delivery of agreed learning activities to ensure that each individual learner meets their discrete learning needs.
2.4 To liaise with the Training Manager and Doncaster Equine College (DEC) instructors, College Counsellor, Skills for Life tutors and also where applicable, with parents / carers to maximise the effect of support and learning for each learner.
2.5 To ensure the satisfactory progress and attendance of learners.
2.6 To carry out all duties to maximise learning opportunities for all learners.
2.7 To provide mentoring, personal tutorial support, pastoral care, and guidance to learners.
2.8 To support learning using a variety of methods including one to one, both in and out of the classroom, or working with a group within the classroom.
2.9 To promote structure and boundaries, ensuring a pleasant and safe environment for learners.
2.11 To conduct regular learner review exercises compiling the findings, accordingly, working with the wider Doncaster Equine College (DEC) team in the writing of regular reports and reviews on learner’s progress and to assist with the general administration of records.
**3.** **Programme Management**
3.1 To organise and administer programmes including the preparation and maintenance of documents in the Quality Manual.
3.2 To attend regular team meetings to ensure the integration of team activities.
3.3 To ensure student views are considered in programme development.
3.4 To contribute to the schooling and exercising of the horses where appropriate.
3.5 To undertake regular programme review exercises and contribute to the Self-Assessment Report (SAR).
3.6 To assist with the publicity and promotion of all Doncaster Equine College (DEC) programmes.
3.7 To contribute to the continuous development of the curriculum are i.e., improving quality standards, adapting provision to meet changing needs etc.
3.8 To assist with the timetabling of the Doncaster Equine College (DEC) courses.
3.9 To provide the MIS & Compliance Manager with relevant data on student progress and feedback.
3.10 To liaise with external agencies i.e., work experience placements.
3.11 To contribute to the whole organisation approach to Skills for Life.
**4.** **Professional**
4.1 To contribute to continuous improvement and the sharing of good practice across the college.
4.2 To participate in formal and informal professional development activities in order to enhance contribution.
4.3 To contribute to the maintenance of a positive and motivating learning environment.
4.4 To monitor and contribute to the health and welfare of the College horses.
