**Social staffing are working with a major client who provides support for children and adults who are in recovery for substance and alcohol abuse.**

**Requirements of the Young People Recovery Worker**:

- Recent experience within Substance Misuse, Substance Abuse, Addiction, Drug and Alcohol, Needle Exchange, or Recovery

**About the Service/Department**

To provide support with mental health and substance/alcohol misuse experience, working across **Derby.** Provide intensive support to service users with substance misuse difficulties at all points in the pathway with the overall aim of preventing hospital admissions and facilitating earlier discharge. Interventions would include:

- Practical support - finances, housing, appointments,
- Emotional support
- Advocacy to ensure access to the most beneficial services.
- Crisis intervention
- Involvement with discharge planning/post discharge support
- Support with community detox
- Encouraging engagement - accompanying to appointments
- Liaison with statutory services
- Educating/advising services on effective intervention

**About you**
- Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and / or dual diagnosis issues.
- Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect.
- Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e. Care Program Approach (CPA) processes
- Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches
- Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers.
- Ability to work with statutory services NHS at the front line.
- Working with Peer Support Workers as part of the team.
- Awareness of health and safety issues
- Good IT skills that include a working knowledge of functions in MS Word,
- Outlook and the internet
- Recovery Model to stabilize their substance use and/or mental health, establish networks of support, manage their health, well-being, welfare and move-on towards independent support.
- **Role Purpose**
- 1. Create and maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
- 2. To engage and build supportive trusting relationships with service users, motivating and empowering them to recover and improve their lives.
- 3. To deliver high quality support to service users, including support with accessing physical health, mental health, substance misuse, benefits, and other services and to support personal care in crisis situations where the service user is at risk.
- 4. To undertake needs and risk assessments, identifying skills and abilities.
- 5. To deliver personalized hours to service users offering practical assistance including life skills and activities.
- 6. To report and record incidents, antisocial behaviour and matters of concern.
- 7. To ensure service users are safeguarded from abuse and promptly report safeguarding
- 8. To use IT systems accurately to communicate, record and update support plans, incident reports and other records on PRHA’s database.
- 9. To practically implement Equal Opportunities in your daily work, ensuring that services users diversity and cultural needs are respected, and discrimination or harassment is challenged.

**Job Specification**
- Experience of group work e.g., life skills, social skills & creating/facilitating peer group opportunities)
- To have the ability to get successful outcomes for service users you have supported.
- Knowledge, empathy, understanding and proven ability to work creatively and engage homeless people whose substance misuse/ complex trauma has had significant effect on their physical and mental health, social and coping skills.
- Competence in responding to challenging behaviour safely.
- Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety in a hostel setting, including dealing with emergencies and lone working.
- 7. A good standard of literacy, numeracy, computer skills and the ability to write accurate and succinct reports

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Part-time hours: 24 per week

**Salary**: £12.00-£14.00 per hour
