**Title of Position**:
**Purpose of the Job**:
Overall responsibility for leadership, direction, and management of the business within the area of responsibility, in accordance with Group and LH1’s strategy and guidelines. Accountability for the development and execution of medium and long-term strategy, financial results and maximizing profitability. Representation of the office at home and abroad in relevant areas to establish and cultivate good business relations with clients and service providers, both internal and external.

**Area of Responsibility**:
Life, health and living benefits reinsurance business for the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the global longevity mandate. Non-life business for the run-off of the former UK General Branch.

**Principal Accountabilities / Major Tasks**:

- To develop and implement strategic initiatives to grow Munich Re’s brand, as a well-respected thought leader in traditional risk management and in advancing innovation in insurance, and consistently seen as the preferred reinsurer by insurers who we aim to partner with.
- To develop and expand our new business (biometric business, FinMoRe and Longevity) to ensure its sustainable profitability and to maintain our market leadership.
- To secure optimum business relations with existing and new clients, ensuring provision of market leading service. To establish and cultivate personal relationships with key individuals of the industry (incl. Commissioner) to enable the identification of general needs and developments in the business market and to ensure appropriate positioning and representation of the company.
- To monitor the market, the clients, and competitors on a regular basis, to identify new requirements and developments in the reinsurance market within the area of responsibility.
- To further develop and execute a strategy for longevity business globally, collaborating closely with colleagues from across Global Life.
- To ensure a proper management of our in-force business to optimize the value of our existing business, including highly efficient and effective administration and data management.
- To develop a medium and long term strategy and implementation plan for the business in accordance with LH1’s and the Group’s overall risk appetite and strategy. To design specific measures and plans of action on the basis of the agreed strategy and business plan. To oversee, monitor and manage the execution of the business plans and the determination and implementation of necessary countermeasures in case of differences between the actual and planned development.
- To ensure preparation of annual financial statements and balance sheet in accordance with the company's fiscal policy and rules. To oversee the correctness of the accounts, the annual financial statement and the balance sheet for the company and all other administrative activities relating to internal services.
- To ensure the maintenance and development of internal processes, resources, and structures in line with the development of the market and businesses and in accordance with the strategy. To ensure compliance with external legal and Group-internal requirements and rules pertaining to reinsurance business operations. To ensure that local practice complies with local best practice.
- To lead, motivate and manage a senior team of direct reports. Both directly and through this team ensuring the necessary structure, market presence, brand, processes, safeguards, competencies, and culture to optimize the business. To ensure fairness in remuneration reviews, while meeting approved budgets.
- To play a constructive and engaged role with non-life colleagues as part of Munich Re’s UK leadership team, including the directors of the UK Service Company.
- To play a strong role as part of the LH1 leadership teams, supporting other parts of LH1 with expertise and experience.
- To shape, support and ensure delivery of the DEI strategy as a member of the regional diversity, equality, and inclusion steering committee.
- Management oversight of the run-off of the former UK General Branch business.
- Extensive, proven experience as a successful business leader in the insurance / reinsurance industry, with a sustained record of execution, in particular of delivering results internally and value to clients.
- Preferably a qualified actuary or with post-graduation in risk and/or business management
- Ability to develop, articulate strategic plans to gain and maintain market and thought leadership, and to inspire teams to achieve ambitious goals.
- Experience in steering business using economic balance sheet and data-led decisions.
- A highly influential thought leader, well-connected and highly regarded within the UK life sector.
