An exciting opportunity has come up to join a dynamic team supporting patients along the cancer diagnosis pathway.

The RDC/Straight to Test service is a nurse led initiative which manages 2 week wait referrals from Lower GI, Non Site Specific and most recently Upper GI.

As a Navigator you will be integral in ensuring that patients receive appropriate appointments and investigations in a timely manner whilst ensuring that cancer targets are met, you will also be a point of call for patients along the pathway answering queries and informing them of their investigation results.
- To be responsible for the day to day running of all Upper GI two week wait referrals coming into the Trust. This will include triaging all referrals into the appropriate clinics based on the patient’s needs and type of referral, contacting all patients to introduce the service and booking them appropriately into the clinics, and managing with the CNS and members of the wider team each patient’s pathway whilst under our care
- Support patients through the Upper GI straight to test pathway
- Triage incoming calls using a risk assessment framework and provide the appropriate response according to protocols and individual pathways, using good communication skills, basic clinical awareness and appropriate tools and procedures, liaising as appropriate with CNS
- The role requires use of judgement in responding to the needs of individuals. The level of judgement required relates to identifying the complexity of the situation, providing appropriate advice and escalating to the registered practitioner where appropriate.
